East Cafe - Dunkirk
East Cafe
Description
Once a beloved spot for Chinese cuisine, this restaurant has seen a significant decline in quality and service, leaving many patrons disappointed. Recent diners reported unsatisfactory experiences, citing issues like food poisoning and poorly prepared dishes, such as overly greasy egg rolls and soggy entrees. While some praised the friendly staff and nostalgic atmosphere, the overall sentiment reflects a drop in standards, with inconsistent portion sizes and tasteless offerings. Though there are hints of potential, notably in their authentic dishes, many customers feel that the restaurant no longer meets expectations, sparking debate about whether it can regain its former glory.

We used to love this place. Not anymore! We were excited for take out this past Saturday night. Instead, my wife and I got food poisoning. I’m still feeling the effects.
Food was very bland and appeared to be pre prepared. One order of Shrimp egg foo young was placed in the typical paper carton and not carry out containers, food was not hot, the gravy was in a separate container. Order of general tso, was not hot but was in the plastic carry out container. It appeared to be pre packaged, lacked the tso sauce and was very dry
Used to love this place. Went in for a quick 'late lunch ' ordered vegetable dumplings and a few other items. Initially the counter took the other as PORK dumplings, then called back to correct. Well, they were pork. There were no vegetables in there. I broke one apart, took it back to the counter to confirm. They told me they were vegetable, which was a lie.I only eat vegetable dumplings so... I know.I won 't be going back. Ever. Vegetarian options: If you are a strict vegetarian, don 't order the veggie dumplings
The food was well-prepared and delicious. The portions were a bit smaller and priced higher than what we’re used to at our local Chinese restaurant. However, for this area, their prices are likely considered low to average for the quality. Overall, the food was good.
Got take out. Ordered General Taos and Sesame Chicken, chicken fried rice, and egg rolls. The sauce was the same for both chicken dishes, very little flavor. Last I checked General Taos is supposed to have some spice and isn’t the same dish as sesame chicken, which is supposed to be sweet. Only difference between the two chicken dishes was that they sprinkled some sesame seeds on it. The fried rice was yellow (that’s new to me for fried rice) and had very little flavor to it as well. Some pieces of onion and that was it. The egg rolls were over fried and chewy. Don’t waste your money in my opinion. There are better Chinese restaurants out there. Don’t recommend.
