I... read more Barbara stayed over on Friday night, so I took charge of breakfast and brunch. But with the heat, I wasn’t in the mood to cook liver, bacon, and poached eggs. I recalled Union Square/Mayfield from my travels and suggested we head there for brunch before our walk to Poolbeg Lighthouse near Terenure. The courtyard was buzzing with young, stylish crowds, and we were ready to join them, but unfortunately, no tables were free. We opted for the quirky indoor dining room instead, which was a welcome relief from the blazing sun outside. Barbara chose the poached pear salad with crispy leaves, bacon, grapes, and Cashel blue dressing—and absolutely loved it. Midway through, we swapped plates, and she enjoyed my perfectly done eggs benedict so much she even took her plate back to finish it. We also browsed the dinner menu, which looked very tempting, so we plan to return in the coming weeks. The bill came to just €20 for two brunches, two homemade lemonades, and one coffee—an excellent value.
