Celebrating two birthdays, 6 adults 5 kids ages 2 to 11. Food was great service even better, everyone left full and happy! Can't wait to go again!
The food was good, and I noticed that they had several craft beers on tap. Saying that, we were only there for lunch and I wasn 't there for the beer. I did appreciate the wait-person 's honesty though; I asked her about the coffee and from where didthey get it? She seemed to understand right off the bat that I 'm a bit picky with my Joe. Her response: something to the effectof it 's not worth it. It 's only Folgers. That was an answer I appreciated since we avoided the inevitable customerdisappointment.?? The food was good though; I was tempted by the breakfast choices, but ended up choosing the panini.
I asked a friend where to eat breakfast Dixon, she said Dawson's or Buds. I flipped a coin and boy was this a winner! I had Huevos Rancheros, a waffle my wife had the California Omelet. Her omelet was fantastic she said EXCEPT that it wasn't as hot asshe would have preferred. Almost like they cooked hers first and then made my meal. For me, even though the carnitas in myRancheros was super moisture and had perfect crisp and my eggs over medium burst with flavor from the dish....the waffle was byfar the capstone. I ordered with fruit, but I normally am not interested, and I ordered no whip cream. So, I guess I amhighlighting a second blunder when I say, they put whip cream on it. It was early Saturday, they just opened, we were the firstand only being served blah blah....but you also only had 1 job ???? In any case, that whip cream I expected to be fake andwimpy, came out looking thick like idk ice cream or something. It also happened to be the best mistake of my life! I totallywanted to just buy a tub of that stuff it was epic. The server said it was homemade, of course it was! I should mention sheoffered to replace the waffle, but when I saw the texture I declined as I was cautiously optimistic. Coffee btw was nothingrestaurant gross about it. Very robust and great flavor. Came in charming mugs and they had no shortage of cream when we askedfor them. The interaction was super friendly and endearing. Honestly I can see the warm Omelet and lack of whip cream omissionsto earn 4 Sars not 5, but my opinion is to say otherwise as we truly enjoyed our food and experience. Rest assured, I willannounce they need to work on food temp next time we go, and we definitely will be going again!
If you?re traveling I-80 between the Bay Area and Lake Tahoe exit in Dixon and drive 5-minutes to Downtown for a journey back in time. Dawson?s sign indicates they?ve been here since 1908. Tables inside, two outside, so my little dog LuLu was welcome. Ienjoyed the Fried Chicken Sandwich with dill seasoned fries. Fat juicy and tender chicken breast, enough to share a few chunkswith Lulu. After our meal we took advantage of the 70-degree temperatures (rare for mid -June! by walking up and down 1st St.and A St. I noticing civic improvement, like a downtown park, since I was here 5-years ago. Wine Bar, Yoga, Sushi, Farm-to-Fork;the town appears to be in a bit of a revival. You?d never know about the quaint Downtown area it if you limited your stop to thetypical gas stations, fast food, Walmart, etc., adjacent to I-80. Four stars for Dawson?s, one additional star ?? for location.
Ordered the pastrami sandwich based on the servers recommendation. There was ver little pastrami and the texture was like store bought lunch meat. The service was almost self serve. When we asked for condiments the server pointed to where we could get them and after we were through eating my friend asked for a takeout box and the server again pointed to where she could get it. Basically the server just brought us the food and that was that.
