Contribute FeedbackPorto Mar in Montreal offers a beautiful setting with inviting ambiance and friendly service. The food received mixed reviews, with some dishes like the escargot and calamari falling short of expectations. However, the rack of lamb and Portuguese-inspired dishes like chicken and snapper were highlights. While some customers found the service slow, others experienced efficient and attentive service. Overall, Porto Mar is recommended for those seeking a quiet, delicious meal in Old Montreal, with the potential for improvement in certain areas like food consistency and service efficiency.
We went to this restaurant on a Friday night and found that it was almost empty, which turned out to be a blessing in disguise because it was understaffed. The same waiter who served us also acted as the host. Despite the situation, he did his best to provide excellent service and was very friendly and helpful. Although we enjoyed our meal, we couldn't help but feel sorry for the waiter who had to handle everything on his own.
We had a wonderful Portuguese wine some of which was spilled during decanting onto the white tablecloth. The escargot and calamari were okay but we expected grilled calamari and it tasted more like it was marinated. We ordered rack of lamb medium rare and it came well done....
Fabulous change of pace, Portuguese food. Used to eat in NJ when we lived in greater NYC. Had pork and clams a dish I fondly remembered. Superb. Sauce perfect. Pork cubes prepped to perfection, a great sign of professionalism in the kitchen.
Service and food was very good, we went twice and on both occasions the experience was very good. The staff were very friendly and always there to help. I have no concerns in recommending this restaurant.
We had an incredible meal at this restaurant! The fish was so fresh and the spicy shrimp was absolutely delicious. It's the best value in the Old Port in terms of both price and quality. The Cod and Swordfish dishes were outstanding!
