Saffrron - Darwin
Saffrron
Description
Saffron in Darwin is a popular Indian restaurant known for its modern twists on classic dishes like lamb korma, chicken tikka, and eggplant masala. One of their standout dishes is the Chennai curry with barramundi, cooked in a flavorful broth of tomato, coconut milk, chilli, and tamarind. Chef Selvam Kandasamy sources local seafood and fresh market produce, using biodegradable bamboo tableware. The dishes are not only delicious but also presented beautifully, showcasing Chef Kandasamy's skill as a colorist. Saffron Express in Alawa offers the same amazing food for takeaway.

I love getting curry from Saffrron, it's my go-to spot. Their Chana Masala Dhal is absolutely amazing.
The restaurant in Parap offers a slightly more upscale Indian dining experience. They offer biodegradable take away containers and have a good variety of vegetarian and vegan dishes to choose from. Their spicy dishes are pleasantly hot.
I absolutely adore Saffrron. It is a rare find in Darwin with its extensive vegetarian menu. The curries are consistently tasty, and the Dhal is a must try for me. The Pumpkin Kari Kari, Snake Beans, Dhal (which changes often), and Mushrooms are all vegan options. The Sarbat, a vegan lemon and lime drink, is a lovely and refreshing choice after a hot day in Darwin. Takeaway is a great option as the portions are generous and I always struggle to finish them. Unfortunately, there are no vegan desserts available, but the Vegetarian Vattalapam, similar to a Creme Caramel, is delicious. Saffrron uses eco-friendly tableware, which is a great touch. Make sure to book a table on Friday or Saturday night to avoid missing out, as they tend to get fully booked. You can also see the awards they have won for their eco-friendly practices displayed on the walls as you enter.
My food from Saffrron was honestly the tastiest and freshest Indian food I have eaten in a very long time.
