What a quaint place and Lena …..you are the best. We enjoyed the tortilla soup, the fabulous presentation and the bread with the green onion butter! As I am from Brooklyn, I do want to try the blitz next time!
The food is ok but the service is absolutely terrible. We had ordered very simple food and drinks. It took about an hour for the food to come. I asked repeatedly for the drinks. My waiter was nowhere to be found. I asked other waiters but to no avail. Finally the food came, still no drinks. Mind you, the drinks were a bottle of water and tea nothing complicated. In addition it was hot and we were parched which made things worse. I actually got up finally and went to the kitchen to demand the drinks! I would have gotten them myself at that point! And on top of that they asked for a tip.
Moheli offers very good food, but this is not traditional Mexican food. For us, locals, is more a preppy café where you can find writers, artists and other artists. Usual clients go here to drink a tea, a coffee or try desserts while they chat or read. Customer profile depends on the day of the week. On weekdays is ideal if you are travelling alone or with a partner, because is quiet and you can rest, but on weekends is busy more noisy and can have large groups. Their hot drinks are usually outstanding, although the descriptions are not the best. Desserts are very good as well. Prices for locals are higher lately, but it still offers good quality.
After visiting the site and reading reviews I was very excited to try, however it did not live upto the reviews. The salmon special starter was fussy, tasty but really odd, see photo. I ordered the watercress, goats cheese and walnut salad this was aweful! They put so many dried cranberries that it felt like breakfast, the walnuts were sugar-coated I was really disappointed. The waiter and service was great though.
This is one of our go-to restaurants when in Coyoacan. Great authentic Mexican selections, including vegetarian-friendly, and great atmosphere. Great place to sit outside in front at small tables. In the evening, for dinner, or when with a group of four or more, we prefer to sit inside at larger tables.
