There are not many authentic Japanese restaurants in this neighbourhood, outside the zona pink, but taro is very good. we were there several times, mostly for lunch, had the bento, also the grill, everything is good.
The place has had an evolution during the last 35 to 40 years. Throughout that time, the lady owner, has made several improvements to the space and the menu. Among the wide Japanese cuisine options in this huge city, I highly recommend Taro for its...authenticity and sushi's fish and fruits de mer freshness. Service is excellent. The location is a busy and ugly facades street and the view is not worth at all but the inner environment has a charm of its own. Don't forget to try Taro Bento!
A large menu with choices that you seldom see on other menus, friendly staff, owners on watch and a really confortable ambience that is not pretentious. This is the first Japanese restaurant I ever visited, back when nobody knew what sushi was. It was there,...serving sashimi, tempura and yakimeshi or that is all I remember because it was like 40 years ago. No, really. This place has been there forever and it IS because it’s GREAT FOOD.
Taro is a perfect place to have some authentic Japanese food... I love Japanese food !! We had a reservation and as we arrived our table was ready, is not a big restaurant so my advise would be to make one if you are going...with a big party. They have a wide menu full of Japanese treats, all translated into Spanish with a full description, what I found very helpful. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. It is hard to say what was my favorite item because all that we ate was yummy!!!!
