Upon our arrival at the accommodation, we were greeted with a warm welcome pack. We stayed in the Raby room and were impressed by the spaciousness and amenities it offered. My brother-in-law particularly enjoyed people-watching from the living room window. It was a comfortable and affordable way to enjoy Barnard Castle and the surrounding area. We also enjoyed having a drink at the downstairs bar, which was conveniently located. We will certainly be returning and highly recommend this accommodation to anyone.
This apartment is in a great location above the Black Horse pub. It is clean, spacious, and modern with no noise issues from the pub or surrounding area. Just off the Main Street, it is a 2 minute walk from bars, cafes, and shops. A thoughtful welcome pack containing milk, bread, butter, and biscuits was provided. The pub is one of the cleanest in Barnard Castle. A good price for a 2-night weekend stay.
We stayed in the new apartments located behind this pub, which is just off the Butter Market end of the high street, in November 2017. I cannot speak highly enough of them - they were warm and cozy with underfloor heating and modern amenities. The apartments, of which I believe there are 8, are very convenient for the high street, pubs, and restaurants, yet surprisingly quiet. You are only a 10-minute walk from the River Tees and lovely walking paths through the woods, and High Force is less than a 30-minute walk away. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend it to anyone.
The Black Horse is very good, traditional, understated pub just off the town centre. It is a fine example of what a local pub should be: unpretentious and simple decor, friendly service, good beer and friendly locals. They also have a couple of rental flats behind the pub, and we had the top floor one for a week. It was a very good apartment and provided an ideal base for exploring the splendid town of Barnard Castle and the lovely countryside surrounding it. We arranged our rental via RCI, but I 've no doubt you can book direct via the pub. As we were here for a week, we were able to sample all the pubs in town and, quite simply, if I lived here the Black Horse would be my local.
