Red Alligator - County Durham
Red Alligator
Description
The Red Alligator recently garnered mixed reviews, showcasing a wide variety of dining experiences. While some patrons celebrated the quality and value of the Sunday carvery, including perfectly cooked meats and a commendable selection of vegetables, others expressed disappointment in service and food quality post-ownership change. Reports of overcooked dishes, unavailable menu items, and inattentive staff contrasted sharply with praises for friendly service and delicious desserts. Overall, guests noted the potential for a delightful meal but highlighted inconsistencies that diners may encounter, urging future visitors to manage their expectations. The atmosphere, however, generally received favorable mentions.

We had a delightful Sunday lunch experience. One of our guests required a gluten-free meal and the restaurant went above and beyond to accommodate us. Highly recommend giving this place a try.
I went for a roast dinner on New Year's Day. I was told over the phone that we would receive one, but the chef said no when we arrived. I ordered the perfect pie, which was served with plastic-like mashed potatoes and raw vegetables. The pie was terrible, and the experience was disappointing for me.
I recently dined at the Alligator for a Christmas Fayre meal and it was fantastic. I chose the 2-course option and had the featherblade of beef for my main course and Baileys cheesecake for dessert. The beef was incredibly tender and melted in my mouth, and the homemade cheesecake was also delicious. Overall, a wonderful dining experience at the Alligator.
Undèr new management, but sorry sunday carverys not nice,at least they weren't when we went weeks ago beef was unbeatable, nothing had much taste, most left on plates,we complained all we got was il tell chef, this isn't good enough, nobody came and asked what problem was,6 meals we all couldn't be wrong. This review most likely removed as they don't like truth.hope it improves but we won't be returning
Under new management and boy does it show, what a spectacular improvement. Our lunch was freshly cooked and good quality. Well presented and delicious. Without doubt Dean is doing a fantastic job to return the “Alligator’s” reputation to the level it was last year. No hesitation in recommending the pub.
