J. Macklin's Grill - Coppell
J. Macklin's Grill
Description
This restaurant offers a unique culinary experience, with a menu that includes items like meat pot and chicken cupcakes. While the food is delicious, some aspects raised questions, such as the speed at which the dishes were served and discrepancies between the online menu and the restaurant's actual offerings. The atmosphere can range from energetic and happening to uncomfortably noisy, depending on the day and time of the visit. The service is generally outstanding, with prompt and attentive staff. The food receives high praise, particularly dishes like the mozzarella and tomato salad, shrimp and scallops over polenta, and chickens and waffles. The restaurant has a clean and welcoming atmosphere, making it a great spot for brunch or lunch. Additionally, the cauliflower appetizer is highlighted as a standout dish. Overall, despite some minor issues, this restaurant is recommended for those looking for a unique dining experience in a comfortable setting.

I dined here with my husband, and he had the meatloaf while I opted for the chicken tacos. We were both very pleased with the flavor of our dishes, but the experience felt a bit off. Our meals arrived unusually quickly—so fast that it felt like we were at a drive-thru fast food joint. The restaurant wasn’t very crowded at the time, so it raised some questions in my mind about whether our food had been pre-prepared and just reheated at the time of our order. We made a reservation for Saturday night, expecting a busy atmosphere, but when we arrived, only about two tables were occupied, and some customers were seated outside. Additionally, the menu we found on Open Table didn’t match what was available at the restaurant; for instance, the Nashville hot chicken was missing along with a few other items. Overall, the food was delicious, but some aspects of the experience left me with doubts. We might return, but probably not on a regular basis.
I made a reservation for the bar area for Easter brunch, and they easily accommodated us on the patio instead. The place was bustling, and both the food and service were excellent! We will definitely be returning.
This restaurant is a great choice for a business lunch in the Coppell/North Irving area. The tables are a bit closely arranged, which might not be ideal for private conversations. They offer various seating options, including a bar, high tops, booths, and tables. The cocktail menu is quite intriguing. The salads are served in perfect lunch portions.
First and foremost, Allison is fantastic! She’s been my favorite server at J. Macklin's Grill for years, always offering great recommendations and exceptional service. I absolutely love the brisket nachos and crispy cauliflower appetizers—they’re incredibly tasty. The BBQ sauce on the nachos pairs perfectly with the cheese, and the brisket is rich and flavorful, making it a definite crowd-pleaser. For my main dish, I typically go for either the salmon or the chicken and waffles, with a particular preference for the Nashville hot chicken version, which is deeply satisfying and soulful.
