Garner Grill - Concan
Garner Grill
Description
Nestled on the clear Frío River in the Texas Hill Country, Garner State Park blends shaded riverfront beauty with family-friendly facilities—campgrounds, shelters, playgrounds, mini-golf and a park store serving ice cream and fudge. Miles of marked trails (Old Baldy, Crystal Cave, Bridges) offer rugged climbs and easy strolls with panoramic views. Summer swimming, kayaking and evening music enliven the park; book early and expect some aging restrooms and occasional crowds.

We went camping for two nights at the end of October and absolutely loved our stay. This is one of the most beautiful state parks in Texas that we have ever visited. The showers at the Pecan Grove campsite were very clean and well-maintained. The trails to Old Baldy and Crystal Cave were a bit rocky, making them a fun challenge for small children, but they had a great time exploring. If you're looking to visit just one state park in the Texas Hill Country, I highly recommend this one—just be sure to know how to avoid the crowds.
Garner is worth a visit! Lot of things to do like camping, hunting, kayaking, picnic etc. We came to see the Old Baldy Trail, make sure to wear comfortable shoes as the trail is very steep and rocky the view above is amazing, also frio river is beautiful and great for pictures.
We camped here for a week in January and loved it. It was too cold to go swimming in the river, but there is lots of hiking and plenty of other things to do. Make sure to try their ice cream and homemade fudge down by the park store. Just make sure to make your reservations in advance, as they fill up fast.
This is a gorgeous place! We've been here many times and camped overnight twice on the last year. The shelters are nice to have if you want to skip the tent. The water is clean and cool for summer weathers. We've also hiked Old Baldy a few times and the scenery from up there is just breathtaking. This is a big state park so there are plenty of space to share. The only feedback I have is the restrooms could be better. There were 4 showers in one of the buildings but 2 were out of order. The public restrooms right across the dam area are a little rundown and could use some cleaning and updating but not a deal breaker. We will be coming back more often.
