The best value for money and professional service. Thank you for always being attentive to your customers.
I ate at the Frate restaurant for lunch and had a great time. I had a mixed del Frate appetizer (cured meats, russa, salmon, nervetti with beans, spring onions, eggplant with salsa verde) and a sliced Angus steak with porcini mushrooms: both dishes more than met my expectations. The only drawback was the lack of detail in describing some dishes on the menu (e.g., game ragù wasn 't specified, and the ingredients on the various platters weren 't mentioned).
The atmosphere is simple, a little retro, the food is exquisite, no frills but well made, the service is impeccable, the quality/price ratio is remarkable, highly recommended.
The place doesn't look bad: there are the inn-style tablecloths, the fairy lights, the photos of Lake Como, and all those clues that make you think of home-style cooking, straightforward and without frills. As it should be. Como, perhaps, almost was: our table, all colleagues, witnessed a dance of appetizers, first courses, and second courses served by waiters who maneuvered like ballerinas in the narrow spaces of the table. The appetizers were rather simple: cold cuts, a bit of salmon, and a good Russian salad. I didn't like the first courses: the saffron rice was undercooked, and the gnocchi, while good, seemed like a knockoff of pizzoccheri. Even the venison, which some people will surely enjoy, was tough and sinewy. The only thing that convinced me beyond any reasonable doubt was the chestnut cake. Now: I may be particularly harsh, but for me, it was a dinner just above mediocre. The only big up: endless wine, which at least softens the usual work-related issues.
