Contribute Feedback What R M doesn't like about Heck's Hungry Traveler:
Our only experience at Heck's was in July 2008. The dinner service was slow, and the staff appeared to be arguing among themselves. The food was merely acceptable. When a group of Scouts arrived, inquiring if they could dine there (about 45 minutes before closing time), the staff didn’t seem very welcoming. The Scouts decided to leave, and so will we. We won’t be returning. View all feedback.

The soups are made from scratch and vary from day to day, and the fries are huge, boasting a crispy exterior and a soft, fluffy interior. I can't stress enough how amazing the burgers are—they're large and packed with flavor. The salads are somewhat unremarkable, but they're adequate, considering you're dining in a remote location. The chicken-fried steak is also delightful, and my favorite sides are the mashed potatoes and green beans. They even serve decent coffee and excellent chicken fingers. When you first walk in, you might feel a bit out of place among the locals, but don't let that bother you. Once you shake off any self-consciousness about whether or not you belong, you'll quickly feel right at home thanks to the great food and service. Just be sure to avoid visiting when there are boy scouts from Philmont taking over the place—it's not uncommon to wait over an hour for your food during those times, as scouts coming off the trails can eat a whole lot and easily order for a table three or four times their size.
I gained all the knowledge I needed about the industry here! Thank you, Dave! - Maxmiliano Machuca
