What Mallory Ankunding doesn't like about St James:
I ordered the Cheeseburger (to be cooked) with sweet potatoes. The very large burger was on a delicious, buttery, dense potato bread and the frits were amazing! But this is the end of the positive things I have to say. The burger was boiled FAR beyond well. The meat was perhaps not a beef, it was not recognizable. Main hotel is awesome. Historic with lots of character making a guest feel like they are back in the 1880's. Furnishings are period. The restaurant is not open Tue or Wed. Definitely worth a visit even if not staying.
A must stop if you are a history buff. To much history to list here. I recommend you research it tho. It's a beautiful hotel with nice rooms. Some have private bathrooms some don't. Staff is friendly and Lamberts ,the restaurant located in the hotel, is first rate food. Several quaint businesses located within walking distance.Rooms: 4/5
Had food on an off day from my job at Philmont, came here with the troop. Had salmon and it was amazing alongside the vegetables. Would eat here again.
