#18 - Pizza - Chiltern, Pubs, Lunch

Reviews summary

Nestled in Amersham, this unconventional venue blends elements of a pub, shop, and restaurant, offering an extensive selection of local beers and small batch wines. While the atmosphere buzzes with social energy, opinions on the pizza vary; some adore its authentic thin crust and diverse toppings, while others find it disappointingly bland. Though the staff are often praised for their friendliness, service issues have been noted during peak times. Despite mixed reviews on the drinks and food quality, many agree that the place is worth a visit for its unique charm and community vibe, particularly on sunny days.

Excellent craft beer bar taproom in centre of Amersham. Superb range, good knowledgeable staff, great takeouts available across all sorts of ale, lager, ciders, stouts and porters. A great hub for craft beer lovers. Highlight beers are Sumo, Hopfest, Roadkill, High Score, Zealous, and De La Creme series. View all feedback.

What Simon C dislikes about Mad Squirrel:

Disappointing. The place seems to have given up on Cask conditioned ale. Now focus on this over priced “craft ale” The very nice Mad Squirrel session ale had gone and the staff had no intention of putting it back on. Offered an over priced craft beer instead. We had one round of 4 drinks, which with the exception of the drivers coke no one liked and then left. I wish I could enjoy paying £7.00 a pint for fizzy cloudy... View all feedback.

Great atmosphere, great beer. A very good range of beer and guest beers that change regularly. Remains local and fun.

Kudos to this brewery for transforming two vacant high street shops into a lively business. The atmosphere is fantastic, the drinks (including gin and wine) are top-notch, and the pizza is excellent.

This franchise of tap and bottle shops, supported by their own brewery, is often the focal point of local early evening social gatherings. The location in Amersham is no different. Individuals tend to gather after a day at work or after getting off the tube to meet up before heading home. While not exactly a traditional pub, they offer a wide selection of beers, along with a recent addition of small batch spirits and wine. I haven't sampled the pizza myself, but it smells fantastic. The atmosphere is wonderful, and with ample communal tables both inside and outside, it's easy to strike up a conversation with fellow patrons. I highly recommend this spot.

The Mad Squirrel, Amersham is our local! Nothing better than strolling up the hill on a Saturday lunchtime to enjoy a bit of shopping followed by a pint of beer from an excellent selection and a crispy pizza. The choice of beers and ciders, to drink in or takeaway, is mind-boggling. I had the Ruby Tuesday cider on our last visit. There is a great selection of gins too.The food selection is limited to pizzas (and garlic bread). Mr M always has Roadchilli (tomato sauce, cheese, chorizo, sweet pickled onions, jalapenos). I love the Sumo (tomato sauce, cheese, chicken, roasted peppers, mushrooms, pine nuts and rocket with peri-peri or jerk sauce). This was very spicy, with good quality chicken, and a fine crispy pizza base. Mad Squirrel is a great addition to the Amersham food scene and well worth a visit for a relaxing couple of hours. If the sun's shining sit outside with the locals and enjoy the sizzling atmosphere. Even better if there's live music.

Been going to Amersham for about a year. Friday lunch is best for us as we live a drive out. I get that evenings are best to see a place come to life but each and every time it has been the most boring time ever. Best thing is the pizza and that is very over priced and tastes different depending on who puts the toppings on. Today was a let down ..the tent has gone .. girl behind bar told us that its because its now Summer.. Really? its still April in my calendar, and WHY oh why is it always so cold in there .. Miss "It; 's Summer still had her coat on while working behind the bar.. as usual no heating on. So zero on atmosphere.. not even background music.. zero on being comfortable .. and zero on everything really .. it was **** for about the 20th time .. we keep going back as partner has shares but no more .. id rather go to Wishful Drinking in Rickmansworth High Street for decent take out beer (to drink in if you wish), and pick up a Chinese takeaway for better value than over priced pizza, even if it is good!

This is an excellent place in Amersham. The selection of beers is vast and they all taste great. We tried their lager and pale ale this time, both excellent as always. No surprise here, as they have their own brewery so everything tastes perfect. Food wise, I highly recommend their pizzas. Service is great too and the team is uber friendly.

I guess it’s time to move back North and enjoy some proper beer.
