The food and drinks are average at best. Additionally, the service is subpar - the waiter checked on our table five times in one hour, which was a bit irritating.
Our server, a young lady whose name I can't remember, provided excellent service. She was attentive, funny, and made sure our group of 6 had everything we needed during our visit. As a wing enthusiast, I couldn't resist trying the wings at Theory. I tried the Bill Kill wing and the Buffalo wing, both of which were delicious. The bottomless mimosas were also on point and added to the overall experience. The wings are priced per pound, with options for 6, 7, or 8 wings depending on size. The prices may be a bit steep, but the unlimited mimosa package on weekends is a good deal. I would definitely return to try other menu items beyond just the wings, such as burgers or specials. Overall, I had a great experience at Theory and would recommend it to others. Thank you for reading my review, and don't forget to check out my YouTube channel "Hungry Road" for more food content!
We had an amazing time at this restaurant with great atmosphere. We came for the bottomless mimosas and loved every moment of it. Our waitress, Courtney, took great care of us. We will definitely come back and recommend it to others!
Great experience!! I came here with a couple co workers. We reserved a table which was super easy. When companies don't rent the entire place out it's usually easy to get a table for an hour or so.The drinks and food were good as well.
Theory offers a lively atmosphere ideal for sports enthusiasts, complete with numerous TVs and an engaging vibe. While the menu features typical bar fare, reviews highlight a mix of culinary hits and misses, including tasty sliders and impressive wings, contrasted with lukewarm sides and high-priced drinks. Although some service lacked enthusiasm, many guests praised attentive staff who went above and beyond, creating a welcoming environment that added to the experience. Ideal for groups seeking a vibrant game day spot, Theory shows promise but could enhance its food quality and service consistency to truly shine.

I had the best birthday party here! Everyone at Theory was incredibly accommodating. A special shout-out to Katie, Trish, Alex, and Sam for being amazing and always going above and beyond!
From the moment I walked in, I was welcomed with smiles and positive energy multiple times. The food was excellent, and the staff was even better. I highly recommend it!
Fantastic bar! While I find the drinks to be a bit pricey, it has a welcoming atmosphere for the LGBTQ community.
We had the best experience at Theory. We had reservations during the early Sunday football games. When the World Cup went long, the staff went above and beyond to keep us happy and comfortable during the understandable wait. Really can’t say enough about the service, and the food and drinks were just as good. Big thanks!
The nicest service in Chicago. Honestly in river north, most bars have some rude wait staff, but at Theory they're 10/10 best. Quick, nice, smiles, fast turn around on tables and great food! Plus they show the UFC fights weekly.

Wow my first time at 'Theory ' in River North, and I 'm very pleased. That was just about the best tomato soup and grilled cheese that I 've had. Three types of cheese, tomato and onion, thick, fresh bread... yum! My wife had the Southwest salad and she loved it. The pineapple cider to drink was delicious too! The Cookie Skillet for dessert was enough for four to share a hot cookie and cold ice cream make for a pretty amazing combination! My wife and I had the kids with us for dinner, and the music was a touch on the loud side but it is a bar, after all. Prices are reasonable, but a touch on the high side for some items. Wonderful service we all loved our server, and hope to see her again the next time we 're in River North!
We were in Chicago for the weekend and wanted to watch the Iowa Hawkeyes play football vs Minnesota Gophers. So happy we found Theory! This place was rockin!! Full of Iowa fans. We had pulled chicken quesadilla and couple of drinks. The staff was so darn friendly and into the game also. It was as if I was in Iowa City and not downtown Chicago!!
Great Sports bar to watch fights. Plenty of Big screen televisions everywhere. Good food. Bar food served after dinner.. Full bar up downstairs.
Went Sunday after the Chicago Marathon to watch some football. Theory was awesome. TVs everywhere and they do an excellent job with the audio AND making sure the game you want to watch is accessible to you. The food and drinks were great but what really made the place stand out was the staff. Every staff member we encountered was friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. They go out of their way to serve you and make sure you have a good experience.
As New England visitors from out of state, we were looking for a great spot to watch the first Patriots game of the season and absolutely found it at Theory! The location is ideal, featuring plenty of TVs showing the game, an amazing atmosphere, and music to enjoy between plays. The staff remained attentive despite being very busy, and the food was tasty, perfect for game day. We even canceled our dinner plans to stay and soak in the full experience. Highly recommend this place—11/10!

We had a fantastic time watching football games. We will definitely return.
Nice sport/event bar with enough screens to power the starship enterprise
Great place to watch a game. Lots of TVs, good food and great attentive staff.
Great spot to catch the F1 races! I just wish they would turn the sound on.
I was looking for a Hawkeye bar in Chicago, and Theory truly surpassed my expectations. The atmosphere and the staff were fantastic, making me feel like I was back in Iowa. I didn’t sample the food, so I can’t give it a rating.

As a wing lover, I couldn't resist trying the Kill Bill and Buffalo wings. The Kill Bill wings were fantastic, featuring a creamy, savory, and slightly sweet flavor reminiscent of a Bang Bang sauce. Meanwhile, the Buffalo wings had that classic taste that I really enjoyed. The bottomless mimosas were a highlight, keeping us in high spirits throughout our visit. Regarding value, the wings were priced by the pound, with my orders consisting of 7 and 8 wings each, priced at $16.00 per serving. While this might seem a bit pricey, the unlimited sparkling wine included in the bottomless mimosa package—$45.00 on weekends from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM—helped balance the cost. This package also offered unlimited **** Marys. Overall, Theory is an excellent brunch destination for anyone seeking a lively atmosphere, delicious food, and a generous supply of mimosas.
The restaurant offers standard bar fare. The sliders were quite good—we ordered them twice. They were juicy, well-seasoned, and served fresh on a toasted buttered bun. However, the Tater Tots that came with them were a letdown, arriving lukewarm. The service was efficient but lacked warmth unless you were a regular. The standout was a server who looked like Angela Bassett; she was friendly, welcoming, and personable, effectively managing our seating and attending to other guests. As for the Buffalo wings, they were coated and came out at room temperature, suggesting they were likely pre-cooked and given a quick refry with a overly sweet sauce that had seeped into the breading. It would have been much better if they were either fried fresh without a coating or if the coated wings had been freshly prepared, which wasn’t the case here. Additionally, it was disappointing that extra Buffalo sauce came at an additional cost, especially since the sauce on the wings had dried out. Given that this is a sports bar, they should offer unlimited condiments. The only dressing options were bland Ranch or Blue Cheese, accompanied by a meager amount of celery and carrot sticks. The drinks were overpriced, with the exception of perhaps the Manhattan featuring Pig Whistle Bourbon at $16. The Apple Cider Mimosa, priced at $11, felt steep, particularly since it was mostly Champagne with just a hint of cider. Overall, this restaurant is easily skipped.
This isn't my first time visiting this restaurant, but it's my first time writing a Google review! I'm delighted to see this place thriving on Hubbard Street for so long. I arrived around 1 PM on a Sunday to catch the NFL AFC Championship game between the Bengals and the Chiefs. Surprisingly, it wasn't as crowded as I had expected. I think this might have been due to the COVID-19 vaccine mandate. However, as the day progressed, more people began to arrive and the seating started to fill up. I’m giving this restaurant 5 stars for their outstanding service, although I feel the food has room for improvement. In the photo, you can see the Bottomless Mimosa deal I enjoyed, along with the Avocado Toast and Hashbrowns that I ordered.
