**Discovering Tabaq: A Mixed Bag Experience**
Located in downtown Chicago, Tabaq is a uniquely cultural dining experience, offering traditional Bengali Indian cuisine. However, opinions about this restaurant vary widely. Many patrons appreciate the delicious, flavorful dishes like biryani and tender chicken, showcased in a welcoming, albeit casual environment. Friendly staff enhance the experience, making guests feel right at home. Yet, significant criticism arises concerning customer service, cleanliness, and food safety. Instances of poor hygiene practices, mixed-up orders, and unresponsive staff detract from the overall appeal. While the food dazzles some, others warn of overpriced, inadequate portions. Proceed with caution, as Tabaq presents a blend of delightful flavors and serious concerns.

Tabaq Restaurant near downtown Chicago is hands-down one of the best spots for authentic South Asian cuisine. I recently dined there and was truly impressed with the quality and flavor of their food. The fish was fresh, well-seasoned, and grilled to perfection—crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. It had just the right amount of spice without overpowering the natural flavor. The mandi was absolutely delicious. The rice was fragrant and perfectly cooked, and the way it was served with tender meat (and sometimes fish! made it a hearty, satisfying dish. It’s clear they know how to get the flavors just right. But the highlight for me was the mutton khorma—rich, creamy, and full of deep, complex spice. The mutton was so tender it practically fell apart with a fork, and the gravy was perfect with naan or even just by itself. Overall, amazing food, great service, and a cozy atmosphere. I’ll definitely be back! Service: Dine in Meal type: Dinner Price per person: $10–20 Recommended dishes: Tandoori Chicken
Stumbled on this place while running some errands. Grabbed a quick kabab roll. Awesome spot with a nice masjid downstairs. Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5 Meal type: Breakfast Price per person: $1–10
Biryani was very good; straight from the pot and in my hands in less than 5 min. Rice was very flavorful and I found some spices in it such as cardamom, bay leaf, etc. chicken was fall off the bone tender. I put on some green spicy chutney which gave a good mild spicy. They prefer cash or Zelle.
