Spoken Cafe - Chicago
Spoken Cafe
Description
Spoken Café is a beloved community staple, known for its friendly staff and delicious offerings, including standout sandwiches and delightful coffee creations. However, during peak hours, customers often face longer waits—up to 20 minutes for a bagel or drink. While the menu impresses with unique flavors and a focus on sustainability, some patrons have noted inconsistencies in drink strength and availability of baked goods. Overall, this charming café invites diners to relax and savor the experience, making it a great choice for those willing to trade time for quality food and friendly service.

We had to wait 15 minutes for our coffee. Saturday at 11:30 is probably not the best time to visit. The iced mocha was delicious, but the latte was quite bitter.
Really neat coffee/cafe place that offers some interesting and delicious sandwiches. Staff is super kind and thoughtful. A tad pricey but worth it
I had their delightful mocha, which was simply heavenly, and it was truly amazing. I'm looking forward to trying their breakfast because they have a great selection. I also really appreciate their reusable cup policy. I definitely plan to go back!
Great place for sandwiches and coffee. They do run out of bagels and breads pretty regularly so you'll have to be flexible when ordering. The kitchen also seems to get bogged down easily so you are best served ordering around there busy times.Vegetarian options: They do have vegetarian options in the menuParking: Paid street parking only, but generally not a problem
I keep really wanting to like this place, but leave having spent over $20 on a few items each time and end up disappointed with half of my purchases. The sandwiches are great, the bagels are great, but busy or not busy, it’s gonna take at least 5-10 minutes to get your food, even if it’s just a toasted bagel with cream cheese. And all the cashiers are super kind and I can tell it’s a community staple, but they’re so familiar with each person ordering that they’ll spend like 3 minutes talking to someone after they ordered even with a line to the door, and again I love they’re friendly, but sometimes you just want a bagel and drink without waiting 20 minutes. Also, I keep trying their lattes, but they’re mostly milk with no strong flavor. If you’re not in a rush and only want food I’d suggest it.
