Smyth - Chicago
Smyth
Description
The restaurant offers an expensive tasting menu with wine pairing that left some customers disappointed due to the lack of additional dishes and abrupt progression of the courses. However, the atmosphere and staff were top-notch. On the other hand, some customers raved about the fresh local ingredients and complex flavors of the dishes, calling it the best culinary experience of their lives. The seafood dishes were particularly praised, and the open kitchen provided a unique dining experience. Overall, the food was excellent with standout dishes, but some found the wine pairing to be lackluster. The attentive and engaging service, along with the stellar food, left many customers looking forward to returning in the future.

What was that? Was it just bad food or arrogant waiters who forgot that they are SERVEers… and what is that yelling for..? Can we just enjoy our meal, our conversation, and our company without being bothered by all of the team yelling every five minutes. Unless I am not here to enjoy the food, the company, and the conversation. Or if you are entertaining, put your show together or hire a professional entertainer. Foodwise… I am sorry, actually I am not, but anyway, I am not coming back. Some pie … – show
Disappointing all around. Waste of $800+ for two people and a waste of our 5 year anniversary meal. If you want expensive ingredients reinvented for the sake of reinventing, this is the place for you. If you want a delicious meal showcasing the best of what the nicest ingredients can offer, try Topolobampo, Schwa, or Alinea. First let me say I think we may have come on a bad menu night. Like I've seen some photos of other dishes and was a bit envious/disappointed that that dish wasn't served. As a whole I thought Smyth was underwhelming. There were a couple really good dishes (my husband loved the crab, I really thought the porridge and foie gras was outstanding), but then there were dishes that were uninspired and lackluster (a round of squash with a lump of caviar on top). As a whole there didn't seem to be en … – show
It truly deserves its Michelin stars. The service is outstanding, and the courses are carefully crafted. I will definitely return.
I had a fantastic experience with the tasting menu, which featured excellent wine pairings. The service was impressively quick and attentive, yet managed to maintain a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere. The open kitchen provided a fascinating glimpse into the disciplined routine of the talented chefs. Among my favorite dishes were the lobster and uni ceviche, as well as the beef dish accompanied by whiskey consommé. To top it all off, the dessert of barley mousse, burnt chocolate, and caviar was the perfect conclusion to the meal. I can’t wait to return and see what else they have to offer!
