If you’re ever in Chicago or you live there and haven’t been to Monteverde it’s a definite must! My wife and I spent weeks trying to get a reso and finally just ended up waiting outside in the rain at 1130am on a Friday and it was so worth it! Complete experience from ambience, Victor our server and his staff, food, cocktails all exceeded our expectations and made our first trip to Chicago a very memorable one that’s for sure. Please don’t deny yourself an opportunity to have a truly memorable dining experience at Monteverde!
Monteverde is a super restaurant. The menu states the chef serves dishes featuring chosen vegetables for the month. As it was September 28th when we were there the menu is probably different now (October 1) – corn and peppers the Sept veg featured in three of the five dishes we chose. The starters were shared and one was better than the other; nduga arancini with tonnato and Manchego; Hokkaido scallop crudo with sweetcorn gazpacho, peperonato, cantaloupe, cilantro, toasted sesame seeds and puffed rice; and chicken thighs alla plancha – sweetcorn succatash, marinated zucchini ribbons, shishito peppers, guanciale, parmesan potatoes and preserved lemon thyme butter. The scallop ceviche and cantaloupe was absolutely lovely a fantastic and, I think, unusual combination. The restaurant was recommended by my son who ate there in August and said it was the best pasta he ever tasted. I have probably had better but cannot remember when. Starter portions were generous so I was relieved that my serving of linguine alla puttanesca with shrimp seemed modest. Looks are deceiving – the sauce was so rich I was fit to burst having eaten every last bite and would have licked the dish if I could have got away with it. Not only was the pasta great – my wife said the tomato sauce with her spaghetti was as good as she ever tasted. Service was top notch too and a great wine list.
