Blue Frog Thai - Chicago
Blue Frog Thai
Description
A neighborhood Thai spot beloved for its Pad Thai, egg rolls, chicken satay and creamy Thai iced coffee, with standout wok cooking and tofu dishes. Regulars praise Panang curry and to-go reliability, but experiences vary: some dishes arrive oily, soggy, skimpy or overpriced, and spice/sweetness levels can be inconsistent. Best for casual takeout or a comforting meal, though portions and consistency occasionally disappoint.

The food was excellent and nicely packaged. It could have been a bit spicier for the "very spicy" option, but overall, it was quick, fast, and delicious!
The only good things are from the appetizer/drink section!! The egg rolls, chicken skewers, and Thai iced coffee.I've been here many times and literally the only thing that is good from here is their chicken satay curry skewers from the appetizer menu. They are grilled and well flavored with the sticky marinade they use. But the portion size is extremely small for the price of almost $10. Wish they had a larger portion as an entree.I've tried their popular Bangkok spicy chicken and it was underwhelming and tasted like orange chicken, nothing special and over priced for the quality. I didn't get much veggies in the dish either just 3 broccoli florets which was disappointing considering the dish is $14 something dollars. Picture below. Do NOt recommend!!I've also ordered their green and red curry dishes and they are mediocre, do NOT recommend. Not spicy more on the creamy side.Tried their tum yum soup it's basically broth, button mushrooms, and small pieces of chicken breast thinly sliced. The broth is very flavorful but the mushrooms and chicken didn't taste too appetizing. Would not recommend either unless you just want to drink the broth, which is good.Their Thai tea is a hit or miss sometimes it's good as in not too sweet and other times it's overly sweet. The Thai iced coffee is good very creamy and delicious!! Must try! Pic below with egg rolls.Egg rolls are great!! Big and tasty. Pic below.Overall, this place is disappointing and idk how they got good reviews.
The Pad Thai is perfect here, though they sometimes put lemon wedges in instead of limes so make sure you specify when your order. Egg rolls are some of the best I’ve had.
Always reliable great taste and good portions. Everything I've tried on the menu I've liked.
I've been visiting this restaurant for several years, and it's truly a hidden gem. They serve some of the best Thai food in the city, all while maintaining a humble atmosphere. The Panang curry is fantastic—silky, savory, and perfectly balanced with just the right amount of sweetness. The basil noodles are also delicious. Their wok cooking is spot on, and the tofu they prepare is especially tasty.
