Contribute Feedback What Celine Kulas doesn't like about China Chilli - Chatswood Interchange:
Spicy food, lots of chilli, everything's red! It is not very organized, we saw a few grumpy customers. Food isn't too bad, it's spicy and numbing, but it is very oily and salty. Good plating for what they serve though. View all feedback.
The restaurant is always crowded at dinner time so we ordered for takeaway - mapo tofu with beef tendon hot pot, steamed chicken in chilli sauce & seasonal special spinach century egg noodle.
The environment is very good, the food is very delicious, I like it very much, it is really a kind of welfare for the person who likes spicy food
Got shown to our table and waitress brought out a couple of cups. Nothing to put in them but really nice cups. I eventually had to go and ask for a menu. No-one explained what we had to do but we worked it out. I eventually had to go and get someone to process our order. Order was processed, food came out, eventually, in dribs and drabs. Eventually had to go and ask for something to eat with, as fingers getting quite sticky at this point. Ordered a bottle of wine with dinner. Eventually had to go and ask for some glasses to drink out of as thought possibly not acceptable to drink the warm wine directly from the bottle, although very tempting at this stage of our experience. Only redeeming feature was the food was actually really nice. When it was time to pay, eventually, we then found out they charge 2% for any credit transactions and even, get this, 2% for paywave!!!! I escorted my enraged husband from the premises very quickly...we will not be going back.

A Sichuan Chinese restaurant, this branch of China Chilli is a proper sit down restaurant with a full menu (unlike the limited food court version over at Hawkers Lane in the Westfield). However I actually never got to see what's on the menu, as they have embraced the ipad ordering technology, where you browse & select your own order on the ipad, but the problem was they only have 1 ipad for the table between 4 of us, and no printed menu, it was hard for us all to see & select at the same time, so my friend ended up just ordered for the table (there was also a lot of confusion with their App when my friend wanted to deselect something, we had to get the floor manager to help, but she then got confused with what my friend wanted to order...). Anyway after all the confusion, the food itself is not bad, but not as good as Red Chilli Sichuan opposite the Chase. The flavours are there, but not too heavy, the sizzling beef in cumin sauce did have a bit of a kick, but not absolutely numbing. The braised pork belly was soft, but a bit plain, together with the blanched carrots & broccoli it looked like something I would've made at home. Surprisingly the soup of choy sum & diced fish was very refreshing and enjoyable. Overall this felt more like a nice home cooked meal rather than a night out at a restaurant.
