Tonic - Charlottesville
Tonic
Description
Tonic offers an intimate dining experience that captivates with its charming ambiance and inviting outdoor seating. While some diners rave about the creative cocktails and standout dishes like braised lamb and roasted chicken, others express disappointment over inconsistent flavors and overly salted options. Service is generally praised for being friendly and attentive, enhancing the overall atmosphere. Despite mixed reviews on food quality, the restaurant's clever drink menu continues to impress. Tonic presents a compelling choice for those in search of a unique dining spot, though a focus on flavor could elevate the experience even further.

This restaurant was outstanding in every aspect - food, drinks, and ambiance. The standout dishes for me were the herbal, complex, and savory feta dip, which had a rich gaminess that I truly enjoyed, and the perfectly seasoned braised lamb roast special, which was one of the best entrees I've had in months. Overall, the food, drinks, and environment were all top-notch.
This place is amazing! They offer a variety of non-alcoholic drinks, which is great. I decided to forgo a cheese board and instead tried their delicious soup.
We visited Virginia for the first time and arrived late on a Thursday evening. As we searched for restaurants that were still open while driving to our hotel, we were disappointed to find that most places closed at 9pm and it was already 8:50pm. Luckily, we noticed that Tonic was open until 10pm and decided to give it a try without checking reviews or menus. We were pleasantly surprised by the charming atmosphere of Tonic, with its garden patio, outdoor tables, and cafe lights. The menu seemed appealing, and I ended up ordering the.
This place was phenomenal in all regards food, drink, and environment. Starting with the food, there were two standouts for me: the feta dip was herbal, complex, and savory. It had such a rich gaminess to it (I mean that as a compliment) that promptedme to ask whether there was lamb fat in it (there’s not). The other was the braised lamb roast special. The lamb perfectlyseasoned and it’s one of the best entrees I’ve had anywhere in months. Of the other items we ordered, there were no“misses”. The cocktail menu is very good and the execution was also on point. I enjoyed the patio atmosphere on a niceOctober evening. And my dog loved that she could come too. I’m visiting from out of town, so I don’t know when I’ll beback next. But I bet I return to Tonic the next time I’m in Charlottesville.
The drink menu is INCREDIBLE. Very crafty, creative, flavorful, and interesting drinks. Definitely the best cocktail menu I have seen they use very high quality ingredients. The food was alright, it was plated very well and the presentation was on point. The food just didn’t live up to the presentation. Overall I will definitely come back here for drinks, but most likely notfood.
