Best food. Great service. A must not miss restaurant for locals and visitors to our wonderful city of Charlottesville. The owners are very friendly and welcoming. You will not be disappointed.
We took advantage of Restaurant Week to check out Fig Bistro and were very, very pleased with our experience. We chose the Walnut Crusted Salmon and the Pierogies as entrees and both were absolutely delicious. We will definitely be back!
FIG (Food is good), I agree. Food is good, just not here. Dinner: Starters- We started with the mussels frites. The actual mussels were adequate and met our reasonable expectations. The broth was actually not bad, but the onions within the broth wereundercooked and made it difficult to enjoy. The dish itself was served without a spoon as if the broth was not intended to beconsumed. The broth was the best part of the dish. A soup spoon wouldn’t be a bad idea to bring out with the dish and a decentbasket of bread would really set this whole thing off. We got neither and it is what it is. My main question/concern….Who’sidea was it to top a plate of mussels with a handful of undercooked, limp, “Cajun seasoned” french fries? In what worldwould that be a good idea? Even if this dish were good, the wet noodle like fries on top would have inevitably ruined it eitherway. Main: Crab cake on a bed of risotto:…..Terrible. I’ve had better crab cakes from the frozen section of Whole Foods. Ifyou’re charging $20 for a single crab cake that’s the size of a cookie, you better be knocking my taste buds out with thatthing. Small. Tasteless. Disappointing. The “risotto” the crab was propped up on was about the same consistency as the friedrice you’ll find in an MRE that’s sat in a storage shed for about a decade too long. Way overcooked. Tasteless. And wholewalnuts embedded in the rice paste called risotto really topped it off well for me. Throw some random greens beside all that andyou’ve got yourself a terrible “meal”. Pork chop frites:….If you thought the crab cake dish was bad hold on, thispork chop just made that look good. Served again beside possibly the worst fries I’ve ever had. Microwaved McDonald’s friesare better than these thin cut, soggy, limp, overall gross fries. The chop itself….if you’re going to serve a pork chop thatis so over cooked, even after it’s been butterflied wide open, you better at least serve it with a knife sharp enough to cutthrou
Let me start off by saying I did enjoy the atmosphere and aesthetic of the restaurant. The staff was friendly and attentive and my wife and I were seated promptly. Being vegan and having certain food allergies my wife called ahead to ensure I would be ableto have options (more than what was on the menu) and she was reassured that there were other options. Upon arrival, we look overthe menu and there is one vegan option and one vegetarian option neither of which I could eat. Long story short, I ended upeating potatoes (well seasoned) and still had go back home to cook breakfast. My wife although irritated by the whole ordeal didenjoy her french toast. Four stars for the VERY limited vegan options.
