Red Pump Kitchen - Charlottesville
Red Pump Kitchen
Description
The restaurant offers a mix of positive and negative experiences, with highlights including delicious food such as the carbonara pizza and homemade cavatelli with local mushrooms. The service, while attentive, can be slow and inconsistent for some diners. The ambiance is charming, and the outdoor garden setting is lovely. Overall, the restaurant offers delightful dishes like the beef tenderloin and coffee cheesecake, but some items like the garlic shrimp appetizer and bass can miss the mark. Despite these inconsistencies, the restaurant is still recommended for its excellent food, engaging staff, and pleasant atmosphere.

After a disappointing breakfast the day before at The Nook, I was really looking to up my game for Sunday brunch.
Pricey, with less than amazing service, particularly given the price pointThe pizza is meh, surprising given that they're a focus of the menu.
Outstanding food and service!! My wife and I were in town for one night and I'm so glad we decided to have dinner here.
I visit this restaurant roughly once a month for work dinners. Overall, my experiences have been mostly positive, though there have been a few occasions that were disappointing enough to make me think twice about returning. The atmosphere is lively and enjoyable, and they have a fantastic selection of wine and cocktails. However, the food can be hit or miss. Depending on your preferences, you might find that some dishes are overly complicated. Nevertheless, the prices are quite reasonable for what you receive.
Make sure you're not hungry when you visit! We're big fans of Pippin, so we decided to try out Red Pump. The service was good, and the food, along with the wines, was excellent. However, we felt there was a significant mismatch in value when it came to the tasting menu. We've dined at many similar restaurants both in this area and in DC, and Red Pump ended up ranking towards the bottom of our list. It's disappointing to leave a $250 meal for two and still feel a bit hungry. Our main issue was with the pasta entrée, which only included 7 pieces of gnocchi—especially frustrating since it was so delicious!
