Description
1Kept in Charleston offers a changed atmosphere with friendly staff in casual attire. While some dishes failed to impress, the seafood options and craft cocktails were highlights for many diners. The service, though slow at times, was friendly and welcoming. Although some experiences were mixed due to slow service and inexperienced staff, the unique menu and creative cocktails make 1Kept a spot worth trying for those looking for a bite and a handcrafted drink. Overall, the restaurant offers a funky vibe and a cool place to enjoy good food and drinks, whether for a casual meal or business meeting.

A complete change in atmosphere from the former scene here. Muzak pumping, host and staff in casual, untucked shirts. Friendly. Very nice waitress had apparently not been trained to offer the host a taste of the bottle of wine ordered before filling all the glasses. We visited on a Monday evening and the dining room was almost empty. Some dishes gave nods to Lowcountry ingredients and combos, but mixing spicy Italian arrabiatta sauce with, say, spicy pimento cheese was a bridge too far.
We were there on an evening where our two wait staff were brand new to the job and consequently our service was affected. Drinks arrived late and dinner arrived too soon. My martini was teeny tiny as was the glass of wine I had with dinner. As for dinner the mussels with lemongrass app was killer OMG delicious. Have it. Shrimp and grits were just ok and the ciopino was too heavy on the red sauce and too light on overall flavor. Dessert of salted caramel chocolate tart was meh. Overall just ok. I’d def go back for those mussels though.
Pleasant surprise. Food was delicious and the presentation was peerless. The staff seemed to be working out a few minor kinks such as communication between waiters and servers. But this was minor and more then offset by the good natured and friendly attitude of the professional staff. We will be back.
We thoroughly enjoyed all the seafood dishes we sampled—the jambalaya, mussels, pork balls, and duck fat corn bread were fantastic. The bourbon pecan pie was also a highlight, as were the craft cocktails. Although the service was a bit slow, the wait staff was very friendly. We definitely plan on coming back.
We came for a little birthday dinner from my husband and a dear friend. We waited at the host stand for about ten minutes, while servers walked by and no one spoke to us. After being seated, it took about fifteen minutes for anyone to come to the table besides the guy who poured us water. The restaurant was not busy but the wait for a drink, glass of wine even, was a good fifteen to twenty minutes. While our particular waitress was very nice and the food delicious, the overall service lacked.
