The pure isolation of this b... read more We stayed in a wonderful Airbnb la Roncate just 50 metres down a small lane off the piazza and overlooking Cernobbia and Lake Como. The pure isolation of this bar and its prospect of encountering local residents drew us to enter the front door. With very little clue as to what lay behind the door other than the sign Bar Azurra we entered the world of the locals in Rovanno on a Friday night. The bar does not appeared to have changed in 50 years with 3 men drinking their Spritz or Campari at the bar, helping themselves to the olives, prosciutto and bread on offer. Gradually local families filtered in to enjoy their usual wood fired pizza. With only 6-8 tables we took our turn to dine. We were not dissapointed as we enjoyed a truly local experience of local wine, beer and supurb pizza cooked in a woof fired oven. The small piazza revealed another wonder the next morning with the tiniest grocery shop with fresh bread, cheese, meats and other essential items to make our Airbnb accommodation something to remember.

The owner found us a place. lace and tartar were very good. We were very well, thank you.

Bar Azzurro may not look like much from the outside but it is a true authentic Italian restaurant with attentive kind service, good quality traditional food, reasonable prices, and complimentary limoncello after desert. The place is so vibrant and welcoming, even the locals who are there for their evening aperitivo wish you buon appetito! as they walk past you table. If you are visiting Cernobbio I recommend you go for a hike up to the mountain top and make sure to stop by Bar Azzurro for lunch or dinner on your way up or down. I have only one recommendation to the restaurant. The lighting in the dining room could be improved a bit. It was a bit too bright and gave off office feeling.
