Th... read more The highlight of our trip to the beautiful Villa d’Este was the restaurant Veranda by Michele. We will never forget the amazing service and even better food! The dishes were prepared to perfection and the taste was unbelievable paradise. Thank you Michele Zambanini, Chef, for an unforgettable evening. We cannot wait to come back. Tables are either in the glass conservatory, or on the e... read more Veranda is the formal restaurant within Villa d’Este. The setting is stunning, we had a wonderful meal. Tables are either in the glass conservatory, or on the extensive lakeside terrace. The latter are shaded from the sun by an awning, or lush trees. It’s a divine location. The restaurant requests jackets be worn by men, but this isn’t necessarily expected at lunch time. Staff were exceptionally gracious efficient, not in the slightest bit stiff or pretentious. Food was very good indeed, beautifully presented, each dish a mini work of art. Portions are on the smaller side, which was a relief for me as it enabled us to comfortably tackle 3 courses (plus the delicious petit fours) without feeling fit to bust. As anticipated, prices reflect the exclusivity of the venue highly accomplished cooking. The wine list is a mighty tome, with prices ranging from only mildly scary, to sell your car! Well worth it in our view though, we would certainly return.

All past reviews I read indicated it was jacket and tie required but this is no longer the case, just jackets. I have read some reviews that weren’t positive. That wasn’t our case at all. Service was great! Very friendly and engaging yet professional. Excellent wine list that covers a wide range of price points. We ordered a red wine from Bolgheri that I thought was very fairly priced. I started with a risotto with lake perch which was a full order. They suggested a half order as a starter which was perfect. Loved it! I had a double veal chop for my main with a fantastic sauce with morel mushrooms. It was excellent. My wife started with squash blossom stuffed with ricotta with shaved truffle and asparagus. She thought it was very flavorful. She had a filet with foie gras on top for her entree. Filet was on the small side but she really enjoyed it. Great views and the inside ambiance was wonderful. Definitely recommend!

The service is impeccable and the food great. All makes for a wonderful and memorable dinner.
