La Puente Centerville
La Puente Centerville
Description
This neighborhood Mexican spot is praised for its friendly staff and a much-loved salsa, attracting regulars and families. However, diners report inconsistent food—weak margaritas, salty beans, undercooked fries, mislabelled proteins and small portions—plus misleading online photos and occasional long waits. Expect casual, affordable dining in a strip-mall setting with kids' meals and a full drink menu; weigh the warm service against uneven kitchen performance before visiting.

It had been a while since I visited a La Puente location, and since it’s conveniently near my workplace, I decided to give it another try. I ordered the Grande Nachos, and when they arrived, I was surprised to see that all I could see was melted cheese, a small scoop of guacamole, and a side of sour cream. I was about to say something when I noticed that the toppings (diced tomatoes, onions, olives, and jalapeños) were actually underneath the cheese. This left me a bit confused, as I expected the toppings to be on top, which is how nachos are usually served. I didn’t take a photo since I only had a 30-minute lunch break and needed to get back to work.
I'm not sure how this restaurant has a 4-star rating. The pictures aren't accurate and appear to be of another location. The food fell far short of expectations; the margarita tasted like lemon water, and the salsa resembled spicy marinara sauce. It's safe to say I won't be returning here.
I wish I had checked the reviews before going, as my experience was disappointing. Although we were told there would be a 10-minute wait, it ended up taking closer to 30 minutes, and there weren’t many customers inside. We spent $15.15 on two beef tacos, rice, beans, and fries. The beef tacos reminded me of Taco Bell rather than anything special. While the rice was decent, the beans were excessively salty, and the fries were undercooked. The only greeting we received when we walked in was a simple “hello.” I wouldn’t recommend this place; my boyfriend even started experiencing stomach pain afterward. If you want to avoid any discomfort, I suggest steering clear of this restaurant.
We arrived at 8:30 as a group of four, but they refused to seat us and only offered takeout. We definitely won’t be returning!
