In the past, Gin used to be a traditional Ligurian restaurant, one of those where you eat a lot of simple home specialities. 10/15 years ago, with th arrival of the new generation, things changed. Food became more refined and the restaurant was redecorated. We went saturday night after some years absence. The place keeps on getting better and they have a beautiful garden now. The food is always excellent with reasonable prices. Marino, the owner, is still present and he is still the same, very passionate and friendly. I think this is the best place in the area if you don't want fish!

I can only assume that the two diners who rated Gin with one star and three stars have got the wrong restaurant. Just as one should not judge a book by its cover, I should not have driven past the unprepossessing grey building that houses this magnificent restaurant as often as I did before finally venturing in. The restaurant is formal, pleasant and clean and the tables well spaced from each other. The food was quite excellent, with all the ingredients fresh and seasonal but remarkably assembled; however, novelty is not pursued for the sake of it but only when it works (some dishes are exactly as you'd like them to be, only better... . Purple potato gnocchi in a turmeric sauce who'd have thought of it? But it was wonderful! The wine selection is extensive but it's best to ask Marino for his recommendations he knows his dishes and the wines of Italy extremely well. The wine glasses are of the highest quality and suit every wine. Children are made to feel welcome but the 4 course set meals (between €25 and €38 aren't over that quickly. The only downside? Tinny pop music (that was soon switched off .
