It never makes sense to me to go out and then cook your own meal but the experience here was worth it. We tried the shabu-shabu meal and cooking it was the main part of our experience. The menu is adequate with a range of meat, seafood and vegetarian dishes to choose from. The vegetables were fresh and tasty and the amount of meat was enough. Overall there certainly was enough to eat. The drinks list is good with a range of local as well as Asian soft drinks, wines and a few beers. The wait staff were friendly and came to our table a number of times to check to see if we were OK and to see if the meal was to our liking. The restaurant is large although on the Saturday night we visited there were only another five tables occupied (however apparently on many week-day nights it can become very busy). Overall we had unique cooking experience that provided a tasty meal which left us satisfied. We would visit this restaurant again.

Antarctic circle in Underwood offers Japanese shabu-shabu and stonegrill meals for a good price. For the uninitiated, shabu-shabu is like Chinese steamboat, where you are given a selection of vegetables and meats and these are cooked by yourself at your table in a boiling hot broth over a hotplate. This restaurant offers wagyu beef and marbled wagyu beef as well as chicken, lamb, pork, or seafood for shabu-shabu for around $20. This comes with vegetables, beef and fish balls and prawns to cook also. You can also select the type of broth (eg. chinese herbal broth, kimchi soup) you would like to use for cooking for approximately $3 extra. The stonegrill meals are also exciting to watch - you can order salmon, beef, lamb, chicken and these are placed infront of you to cook yourself - you can choose how you like it eg. medium-rare vs well-done. Antarctic circle boasts no additives nor MSG with its food.Service is reasonable and the restaurant is the perfect spot for large group dinners. The only thing I have to fault the restaurant on, was that the floor tiles were very slippery, so make sure you wear good-gripping shoes, especially if it's been raining.
