Chicken Gourmet is an institution in Civic, many a drunken warrior visit the spot and enjoy their hot chips in the early hours of the morning. You can't go wrong with the hot chips from here, they're fresh, crispy and you get a massive serving for a good price. My advice is to have your drinks in civic and then stumble into gourmet and be entertained by the loudspeaker used to place your order. View all feedback.
What Orrin Jacobs doesn't like about Chicken Gourmet:
Well after a late night gig looked for a feed. Had the chicken burger and chips combo...$15!
The chicken looked "gray"...the burger itself was pretty messed up and largely inedible. Was served quickly but that's the only saving grace to this story. Macca's is just across the street...it would have been a safer and more predictable option.

So i see this chicken store and its always caught my eye. I finally made a pit stop for dinner one night. The girl at the counter seem to be new but the service was friendly. I just bought chicken and chips for $7. The food came out super fast. I literally found a seat and a few minutes later my bag of chicken and chips were on my table. There's self serve sauce and seasoning. I found it weird that the chicken salt is just in a takeaway container with a spoon... as opposed to in a canister to shake it out evenly... The fried chicken was crispy while the center itself was succulent. The chips were decent... crinkle cut.. reminded me of Kingsleys... Canberras chicken treasure place. There was a tv inside which provided enough entertainment but the decore doesn't say much about this place. With decent staff, decent food, it wouldnt be a place I'd come back often but would not turn my nose to.
Chicken gourmet is a Civic institution and if you were an ANU student you probably ate here (or the other outlet at Marcus Clarke St) at some point in your life, maybe your test ended late and this was the only place open or you suddenly had a craving for hot chips and chicken after drinks at Civic. Anyway you can't go wrong with their crinkle cut chips and crispy but moist chicken, adding chicken salt is a must! There's also plenty of other stuff like salad, pizzas etc and they open till late so it's worth a visit!
Nice pizzas and a pretty restaurant in the middle of the Civic Center of Canberra. the best was Gerardo, the owner and his awesome attention, very considered
