What Leanne B doesn't like about The Carlton Arms:
Went for a Sunday Cavalry, had to wait one hour before we could eat, luckily food was still warm, staff seemed miserable and stressed, making their unhappiness visible and vocal. Two ladies besides us complained and the feedback from the staff was unpleasant, no communication for why we had to wait for so long. View all feedback.
Fantastic, honest pub. Staff are lovely, food is delicious, particularly the carvery. Overall spotlessly clean facilities. Great old school pub.
We had booked a table for our family of four. Arrived and drinks were purchased within a reasonable time frame. Shown to our seats and when we tried to approach the carvery, we were abruptly told that there were take away meals which had to be priority. So we sat back down again and waited 20 minutes until we thought we had been beckoned to come for food, however, another table had just been seated next to us and at the carvery table we were told they were first. When we raised this as a problem, they finally allowed our family to get their food. Whilst sat waiting and during the entirety of our meal, we noticed the various staff keep pulling bits of meat off the carvery to eat. Dreadful and disgusting as no one wore gloves. Eventually there seemed to be a big plate of meat piled at the back for the staff to continually pick at. The chap putting together the various take away meals in cartons was dressed inappropriately, kept removing sweat from his non-gloved hands from his face, and then continuing to serve the food into the cartons, some by hand e.g. Yorkshire puddings. Would never order take away from this place! The food itself was a bit overpriced though not too bad. Some was overcooked, the roast potatoes were hard and some items were not available due to them being all given to the take away cartons. Overall we would never return due to the poor standard of hygiene and service.
Spacious parking and good interior layout. If reggae is your thing around Cambridge then the Carlton Arms is the spot for a Saturday reggae vibe.
Lovely carvery here. 3 size plates to choose from. One of the best I've had. Delicious
Brilliant, throughly enjoyed the carvery, Inch’s cider on tap as well! Miles better than the Toby carvery last month!
