We ate there for a late lunch one mid-week day and the meal was going smoothly until a well-meaning but inexperienced waitress whipped past my table asking if i... read more We ate there for a late lunch one mid-week day and the meal was going smoothly until a well-meaning but inexperienced waitress whipped past my table asking if it was all right to remove my dish, snatched the dish without waiting for an answer, even before I could call her back, she was gone. With it my wasabi and ginger. I was still eating. One of my pet peeves, inexperienced staff who interrupt conversation to ask inane questions, who take away my plate before I am done. For heaven's sake, leave your diners to eat in peace! We've eaten at Sumo Grill many times. Most of the time the service is lackadaisical and unimpressive. Don't they train them? No tip! They apologized as I left the restaurant, but I was completely unimpressed by then.

While the Yakini... read more The Bento box at this restaurant is definitely worth trying. There are many different types of food included, such as salmon and beef Yakiniku. While the Yakiniku may be a bit strong, it is still quite tasty. The gyoza, takoyaki, California maki, and teriyaki chicken kushi are also decent options. The chicken katsu is delicious and a standout item. The egg drop soup and Japanese tea are both satisfactory. The service is friendly and overall, it's a good place to eat.

Despite expressing my concerns about the quality of the toro, the server insisted it was good but it turned out to be disappointing. Overall, I felt that the restaurant did not quite capture authentic Japanese flavors and seemed to be attempting to imitate dishes from a poorly executed Japanese restaurant.
