Markos Restaurant has carved a niche in Calgary's dining scene, offering a cozy space filled with authentic Serbian flavors. While opinions are mixed, many praise the homemade quality and freshness of the dishes, particularly the cevapi, goulash, and a variety of vegetarian options. Diners appreciate the friendly service and warm atmosphere, making it an inviting spot for comfort food. However, some have noted inconsistencies in portion sizes and seasoning, with a few dishes lacking the expected richness. Overall, Markos is a beloved local haven for those seeking hearty, flavorful meals, reminiscent of home-cooked comfort.

Had a fantastic low-carb dinner at Marko's Kitchen tonight. I enjoyed the goulash served with mung bean noodles—absolutely delicious! The low-carb lemon blondie for dessert was equally tasty. The service was very friendly. Highly recommend! View all feedback.
What Anonym dislikes about Marko's Kitchen:
Paying $18 for an order of ćevapi that was barely acceptable in quality is simply too expensive. The food was carelessly thrown into the takeout box, with dry lepinja and ćevapi that lacked flavor. Definitely not what I expected. View all feedback.

My husband and I were looking for a locally owned restaurant that had good food and a friendly atmosphere. We found that at Marko's Kitchen. We were served quickly and the food was hot and delicious. We started with Marco's Rolls. The pastry was flaky, the meat was seasoned just right and the homemade cheese was creamy. The pork schnitzel was lightly battered and delicious, the homemade fermented cabbage was fresh and crisp. We are planning to go back and try some more items. It was a wonderful dinner. Nothing good to say about this place. At the entry I found table by myself, no menu or drink offered. The young lady brought glass of water and said nothing. Later she brought goulash that I haven’t ordered. When I said that I didn’t have a chance to order anything, she argued that I said goulash at the entry and she can’t return already prepared food. Actually, I asked at the entry if they serve lunch, she just said yes. When chef, probably owner, asked how I like goulash I said that I haven’t order it. He asked me if I want something else and I said that I would like to try chevaps. No drink offered except one glass of water, I couldn’t wait to go back to my car to take more water, was so thirsty. I went to the counter asked for recommendation for desert but young lady busy with her phone said everything they have is in the fridge. I got some kind of pouding in the plastic container. It was average but I like creamy deserts. After waiting at my table for a while I packed, took my chevaps and went back to the counter to pay the bill and I was charged for two main courses $40+, even for the goulash that I haven’t ordered. I got Starbucks coffee on my way back to the hotel and ate chevaps in my hotel room. I wish I had a chance to try their turkish coffee.

The service was excellent from the owner, he was talkative and passionate about his restaurant. We ordered the burak and schnitzel (on special) we also got Marko's rolls and some wine to drink. For dessert we got a slice of black and white cakewhich was very tasty, not too sweet with an expressive cocoa flavour. Overall a very good experience and great service. A greatfirst impression from Marko's kitchen !
Decided to go there based on their high rate. The restaurant ambience is very average. The hostess was very nice. We ordered Markos roll for the appetizer. The filing was fine but no something you want to try again. Cordon Bleu was their best dish wetried but didn't have a wow factor. The burek was soggy and oily. The BBQ platter was the worst dish of the night. Nothinggourmet about burgers, below average. Extremely salty sausage. Chicken was average. Chevapi was fine. The pork loin wasok. Overall the food was very greasy, too expensive for the quality, and only focused on quantity. They serve home made foodwhich you appreciate if you are invited to their house. Sorry Mario's kitchen, don't want to be harsh critic, just wish yousuccess and hope you find ways to make the restaurant better To support the family business we will visit them again. I hopethey also work on the food to change it restaurant worthy
Lunch at @markoskitchen_yyc was amazing. They specialize in low carb, allergen friendly cooking and I was impressed. Items can be sugar free GF, DF, Vegan and low carb. Locally sourced ingredients with a homemade comfort touch ? Also, try the cakes and baklava.... I'm already regretting not buying more to bring home ? The owner was beyond delightful as well. You feel like family immediately.
It's a great place with It's own unique experience. Big portions, delicious meals. Turkish coffee. Local music from Croatia. Definitely gonna visit again next time I'm around that area
The service was exceptional, courtesy of the owner, who was both friendly and passionate about his establishment. We ordered the burak and the schnitzel, which was a special that day, along with Marko's rolls and a bottle of wine. For dessert, we savored a slice of black and white cake that was delightful—perfectly balanced, not overly sweet, and featuring a rich cocoa flavor. Overall, it was a fantastic experience with superb service. Marko's kitchen truly made a remarkable first impression!

Amazing food and Service. Very welcoming environment with a heart touching story! Would highly recommend
It was a great experience, very nice owner. My daughters love it so much, even my youngest is the one who insisted to put a review and give them 5 stars. Treated by a plate of sweets from the owner like every One else that was there. She makes you feels really cozy and warm.

This is, without a doubt, the best food in Calgary. It's challenging to find such incredible dishes even in Bosnia.
The restaurant is excellent, offering superb European-style cuisine. Highly recommended!
I absolutely loved the food, the presentation, and the ambiance! The staff was fantastic, and the food was incredible! I would definitely return to this cozy spot!
Very yummy Eastern European comfort foods suggesting the chevapi, the perogies, the goulash, the desserts and the coffee.

This restaurant is fantastic! The food is authentic, the service is incredibly friendly, and the desserts are delicious. The owner/manager is very welcoming and accommodating. The portions are generous, and the prices are reasonable.
My favorite dish was the chevapi, a homemade pastry filled with sausage. It's simple yet incredibly tasty. The bread is delightful, with a crispy exterior and a soft interior, while the sausage can be a bit dry, making it the perfect companion for sour cream. It's a hearty meal with a unique flavor I've never encountered before. The goulash was also delicious, packed with vegetables that added so much depth to the soup. It’s the kind of comforting soup you'd want to eat when you're feeling under the weather—healthy and energizing. It’s served with mashed potatoes, which pair perfectly with the soup! We also sampled the beef and barley soup, which was equally tasty and came with a rice cracker. To top off our meal, the owner treated us to some dessert, which was fantastic as well. Overall, the food was quite new to me, but everything was delightful!

We've been to this restaurant several times and absolutely love the food here. For me, I personally order their Schnitzel and Cordon Blu because they are my favorite. However my husband has tried alot of other dishes here and can honestly say there isn't a bad meal. The owner is very friendly and most of the time will also be your server. He is passionate about the food he serves. Alot of the items are on the healthier end. I love how he substitutes flour with almond flour in his schnitzel giving it a better taste. Also once in awhile there is live music. We for fortunate enough to check out the Elvis tribute singer. This is definitely a place one should check out.
Upon entering the restaurant, the owner warmly welcomed us and shared the heartfelt story behind the establishment and his motivation for opening it. He aimed to provide health-conscious dishes inspired by his son's illness. We ordered several dishes and enjoyed two alcoholic beverages, all while embracing the idea of supporting local businesses. The experience was pleasant, with homemade dishes prepared from scratch by the owner himself, who also served as our attentive server. The traditional atmosphere added to the overall charm of the dining experience.
If there's any justice in the world, Markos will do so well that the owner will enjoy a very lovely, luxurious retirement, and there will be a chain across the planet, because not only is the food Amazing but he has created a lovely family story of perseverance through extreme difficulty... Marco's wife passed away at only 50 and he has family challenges with his fabulous son, who we were lucky to meet, and he shook his hand after the meal. Ironically, there was only two tables filled at the restaurant and we were celebrating my daughters birthday and the other table were also celebrating a birthday, so Marco the fabulous owner helped us out and sang happy birthday to both tables with a candle on the free dessert, which was a lovely, added touch. It turns out that we even have a Serbian friend in common with the same name, both first name and last name. Thank you so much Marko we will definitely be back and we will spread the word .
We absolutely adore Markos! It is our favorite restaurant for tasty food that doesn't break the bank. Our must-haves are the cevapi, goulash, chicken cordon bleu, and any of the salads. The dishes are always fresh and flavorful, the service is friendly, and the atmosphere is cozy and welcoming. We also love attending special events like blues nights at Markos!
The restaurant is small yet clean. They serve typical Serbian food, but also offer several vegan dishes, which was a pleasant surprise based on my previous experiences in Serbia. We opted for the mixed meat plate for two and the smoked pepper stuffed with beans and potatoes. Both dishes were delicious and authentic. I especially enjoyed the smoked pork and the stuffed pepper, while my husband was impressed with the meat selection. The drink menu had a great variety of wine, beer, and alcohol. My husband enjoyed a beer, I had a nice glass of wine, and we both ended the meal with cherry brandy. Our server was outstanding and even gave our little girl a cookie for dessert. We will definitely be returning.

Amazing service, super friendly staff, and the best restaurant food I’ve ever had. I cannot recommend Marko’s kitchen enough!
Very nice owner. Food was served promptly. The meat was a bit dry or maybe it was the bun… Unsure. No price indicated for the desserts but at $7 each (VERY small portion) it’s definitely not worth it. I believe everything is homemade but the taste was pretty off on everything we tasted. Their entrees are a lot better.
I am vegetarian and so finding food that I really enjoy can sometimes be a challenge! But not at Marko’s!! The food was excellent, having both vegetarian and non vegetarian options. The service was amazing, the atmosphere was perfect and the hospitality was second to none! Would definitely recommend Marko’s for anyone who wants to try home cooked meals that taste just like your mom or baba make!Vegetarian options: The menu is full of vegetarian options! I had the white bean soup and cabbage salad and it brilliant. Full of flavour, filling and very much reminded me of home!

We were there last night! Service was great, food was absolutely delicious! We were impressed with the choices of food on the menu and were even more impressed to find out that all ingredients are locally sourced. This place is a gem! Do yourself a favour and give Marko’s a try!
Every time we go to MK we feel at home. The service is very friendly, and their food is delicious! You can tell that the food is healthy, fresh, and has that “homemade” special touch that is hard to find in other restaurants. Highly recommended!
Had a fantastic low-carb dinner at Marko's Kitchen tonight. I enjoyed the goulash served with mung bean noodles—absolutely delicious! The low-carb lemon blondie for dessert was equally tasty. The service was very friendly. Highly recommend!
