Flying J - Calgary
Flying J
Description
The Flying J truck stops across various locations have received mixed reviews, ranging from complaints about the lack of water at RV stations to a disappointment in the additional fee for tank emptying services. The restaurant at the truck stop has been criticized for poor service, rudeness, and high prices for average food quality. However, there have been positive remarks about the cleanliness and parking availability at the truck stops, as well as friendly and helpful staff members. Overall, Flying J offers convenience for truckers and RV drivers, but the dining experience may vary in quality and service.

The Dennys at this Flying J is very average. Cleanliness however is below average, particularly the restrooms. This says more of the patrons of the place than the maintenance staff, for I doubt that anyone could keep up with the mess these people make unless management staffed the restrooms with attendants. Counter staff in the convenience store are generally unconcerned about lineups at the cash register. It is not uncommon to see 7 or 8 people in line with 2 of the 4 registers open, five workers behind the counter pretending to be so busy stocking peanuts and cigar rest that they simply don't see those in line. They are very concerned however about pushing the various heart clogging deep fried food items in the hot case and over priced industrial grade pizza they sell. This constant up selling grates on the nerves. You simply cannot buy anything here without being asked if you want one of these frankenfood items and the staff seem to take mild offense if the answer is anything but affirmative. The Dennys is also very average. The greeter and server spoke so quickly and in such mumbles that they were very nearly impossible to understand. Our waitress rattled off her greeting spiel with such rapidity (Hellomynameisserverpersonandi'llbeyourservertodayourspecialsare.... that I missed most if it. It comes off as very impersonal, much like the shop worn patter of a carnival barker who is bored, yet has to deliver over and over again. Even Ron Popiel made his chop o matic demonstrations with more flair and personability than this and he was talking to a tv camera. Coffee is priced at nearly 3 dollars a cup, and it's a very small cup you get for that three dollars. A simple side salad is 5 dollars. Lunch with tip will run you 20 per person. And this for a very, very average Dennys. Poor value, impersonal service and poor cleanliness over all. Unless you need the parking space for your large truck or need fuel, it's not worth stopping.

Hauling big trailers that is not easy to park, so I think I'm moving to the truck place as they always have good food....Industrial area right in front of Deerfoot and Pegain Trail Road King petrol station has a restaurant. Do not go food is inflamed, very shocked and surprised. Do not waste your time driving past you will be grateful that you will not waste time or money at this place
I arrived at this restaurant 45 minutes before closing time and was promptly informed that they were not taking any more orders, as they were about to close. I could have just left and gone elsewhere, but I had been treated so well at another restaurant on a previous night when I arrived less than 30 minutes before closing. The service was excellent and I had such a great experience that I would definitely go back to that restaurant. However, the man at this restaurant was so rude that I immediately became angry and decided to leave without eating, even though I was very hungry. I will not be returning to this restaurant.
