The Bottega Trattoria is a bit off the beaten path but if you find yourself there, stop in for some fresh Italian food. I eat here usually once a week. I've tried the pastas and they're excellent. I've been hooked on the calzones lately, they're soooo good. Made fresh in front of you and they have an excellent pizza oven.Prices are excellent for what you get. They're only open for lunch. This subway location is one of the best in GuelphAlways fresh bread and toppingsThe one Indian gentlemen there has been making me lunch for years.
Bruno is closing his doors within a week or so. Was it the food. heck no, was it the atmosphere...perhaps a tad, was it the hours...very probably, was it the location...a very definite YES!!!Sadly, whatever the cause(s) for closure, Bruno had little choice but to call it quits. Banging your head against the wall only creates a hole, a headache, but never a solution. It simply never caught on. Too much work for too little profit. The quality of the food was not in doubt. We never had a meal we didn't enjoy. Everything that came out of the kitchen had a touch of love as a main ingredient. I mean that with all sincerity. Nothing was prepared using half measures. Staffing was difficult, in part due to low table turnover, consequently little income for wait staff from satisfied customers. Very difficult to keep staff invested if the tips aren't as expected. Happy employees add life to any establishment, and if staff simply go through the motions, then the customer feels the emptiness, and Bruno alone couldn't possibly provide the oomph missing during lunch hours. We often saw familiar faces when we stopped in for a bite, but because this restaurant was buried in the industrial area, unless a person had business with a local factory, or worked in the vacinity, word just never spread about the wonderful food to be had at this little eatery. Besides, this area is basically inhabited weekdays only, seldom at night, certainly not on weekends, so without regular hours to fuel the customer base, even contented customers found it difficult to recommend Bottega Trattoria to friends. Indeed, Ma Kettle and I tried often to meet up with family, but the hours made it nearly impossible to achieve. We really are sad, mostly for Bruno, but partly for us. We were spoiled with great food, so now our hunt continues for a replacement, but I guarantee the bar for a successor has been elevated.
I've eaten here a few times now and always had a great meal. The calzones are great. I've had the pasta dishes as well which were also excellent. The daily specials always look good. Go give them a try. Well worth it.
It's a small place in the industrial area off 58 Ave SE. simple décor, 50 seats, all beating to the enthusiastic people that work there. Reasonable pricing, decent portions, tasty food. 8-12" pizzas, Calzones, pasta dishes, panini, salads, and daily specials. thumbs up, will repeat
