The Bow River Barley Mill

The Bow River Barley Mill
3.9 / 5 (1235 reviews)

Description

Located in the bustling Eau Claire market area, Barley Mill is a typical pub with a nice atmosphere, drink specials, and an extensive beer selection. While some diners found the food to be somewhat salty and below expectations, many enjoyed the flavorful dishes and friendly service. The rooftop patio offers a great setting, perfect for enjoying a nice meal or cold drinks. Despite some service mishaps and inconsistent food quality, the overall experience at Barley Mill seems to vary depending on the day and time of visit. Overall, it's a decent spot to grab a meal in downtown Calgary.

Went there on a date with my husband. We sat on the patio. I love the feeling of Eau Claire-lots of people walking by and out and about. The food and drinks were good. The service was great too. Would definitely go back- most likely in the summer.

As a single diner I requested a seat outside, only to be told they were full. (I had just walked in front of the patio upon my entry). I inquired further as to when a table would be ready: answer, "they have just sat down and are now ordering." Everyone? I questioned....... (I will spare you the remainder of the details. I eventually obtained a seat. Point in order: I was offered a single seat at the bar where there are no single seats on the patio. Special note: I have encountered this before at this restaurant. Ordered the short rib dinner. It came, after a request for at least 2 additional beverages, and it was over cooked and very dry. The potatoes were cold and the vegetable medley was: over cooked carrots, under cooked parsnips and another root vegetable that I could not recognize. I chose to order desert: Apple pie empanadas. It came out raw - under cooked. The wait staff was great and did the usual apology and I assured him that these issues were not his doing and thanked him for his ability to resolve the in-house issues. If you are a single traveler better to avoid this place

We really went in for a drink, but one of us need up with a meal of fish( cod) and chips ( french fries) which she enjoyed thoroughly. The rest of us had a caesar and beer ( specials). Tasty - infant we had two each because the first was so good. We ate outside in a shaded area. It was very comfortable as well as enjoyable!

The patio at this restaurant is excellent! Our friend from out of town really loved the delicious cider they have on tap.
