What Charlie S doesn't like about Crown Traditional Fish And Chips:
I popped into this fish and chip shop around noon hoping to grab a bag of chips. However, I was disappointed to find that most of the chips were overcooked and dry, making them tough and inedible. I ended up throwing most of them away as I didn't even feel comfortable feeding them to the pigeons outside. It's no surprise that the shop was empty when I walked in. I won't be returning. Put simply this was the worst fish chips i have had for at least a decade… Chips: like kevlar , titanium and leather combined into an inedible tooth cracking substance gave 90% to the bin ! Bin not happy Fish: bone dry and i mean crumbly dry and totally tasteless … Whole lot double dipped and baked under a heat lamp until leathery and literally I couldn’t bite into it… My advice don’t go or wait until you see a massive queue so you know that at least they aren’t double dip frying them etc
Terrible experience. The fish and chips seemed to have been reheated from the night before, or even the week before. The peas were undercooked and not soft. Completely inedible. I ended up throwing it in the trash. Just like the previous review mentioned, I now understand why the restaurant was empty. They may have taken my money today, but I definitely won't be fooled into eating here again.

This place isn't awful but, neither is it great. If you go after the lunch time bust period then your food probably won't be very hot. Also for some reason they seem very proud of the fact that they cook in beef dripping which will come as a shock to anybody not used to that. It also means of course that there is nothing veggie here. Most of the staff are friendly and helpful which counts for a lot as far as I am concerned. However, this listing is very out of date. The indoor section hasn't been open in months and the take away staff don't know if it ever will open again. So, no seating no wheelchair access and no toilets. It is however, one of the only eating places in Hebden that still caters for traditional working class people. It won't suit everybody but it will be just what some people are looking for. Not as cheap as it used to be (but what is? but still a lot cheaper than a lot of other eating places in Hebden.
