Feedback
My wife and I stopped in without a reservation on a Saturday might as we had just rolled in from a day of traveling.
Caen has its fair share of crummy places to eat, including the 'Irish pub' and various other establishments catering for tourists. Le Carlotta maintains good standards of traditional French cuisine, service and value for money. The menu takes no prisoners and I wouldn't come here if I were a vegan or vegetarian or for that matter, wanted to indulge myself in healthy living! Cream, butter, meat, pate and rich sauces are to the fore here. Great art deco interior with waiters and waitresses in traditional black outfits, sets the scene for a wonderful ambience on the quayside. Though it is possible to find fault - see comments of other reviewers - I can wholeheartedly recommend this place. I had a superb 3 course set menu for €34 and went for the lobster ravioli, entrecôte steak and creme brûlée. With mineral water, coffee and a half bottle of red wine, the whole lot came to €54. This will cost three times as much in London - it's almost worth the fare on the Eurotunnel or ferry. Good gastronomic standards and The fact that is listed in the Michelin guide is justified. They coped with my basic French but I'm sure if you want to speak English that will work as well. Great place.
