Hl Peninsula - Burlingame
Hl Peninsula
Description
At HL Peninsula, diners can expect a mix of exceptional Cantonese cuisine paired with picturesque bay views. While the food—ranging from steamed fish to inventive dim sum—often dazzles, service issues mar the experience, particularly during peak times when staff shortages lead to delays. Highlights include flavorful geoduck clam and a uniquely satisfying granular texture provided by dishes like sticky rice zongzi. However, not all offerings, such as the preserved egg and pork congee, meet expectations. Overall, while the dining experience can be delightful, careful timing and a tolerance for slower service may enhance your visit.

I really enjoy the BBP Pork buns and pastries, along with the chive and shrimp dumplings at this restaurant.
The preserved egg and pork congee at HL Peninsula is extremely disappointing. It lacks savoriness and has a strong fishy flavor. I have tried many congees, but this one is the worst. I can't believe the decline in their food quality. I would recommend avoiding this dish.
Ok speaking as a white girl who just stumbled into this place having no clue what I walked into and not being able to read the menu, this place was fantastic. So I ordered off the picture menu and got what I think is sea cucumber. This was spiced with wasabi and was a texture somewhere between jello and a pickle. It's not something I would order again; however it was good. Next came the soup and holy cow that was absolutely fantastic! It was super hot and filled to the brim with tons of seafood (shrimp, scallop, fish, shellfish, mussel, prawn) and was spiced just right. The soup was absolutely huge and I honestly wish I had ordered just that. The food came with hot tea and a dessert soup. I asked and it was green pea dessert soup. It was also fantastic and I wish I hadn't been so full so I could eat it all. 10/10 I would go again for the Tom Yum Soup and the pea soup.
