Dobutsu - Buffalo
Dobutsu
Description
Dobutsu has garnered a reputation for both outstanding culinary creations and notable service. Diners praise the vibrant ambiance and delicious offerings, particularly the Unique Daily Bao and perfectly cooked pork belly, alongside flavorful ramen and dumplings. However, inconsistencies in quality, particularly with oysters and excessive sauce in dumplings, have left some guests disappointed. Service quality varies, with some noting attentive staff, while others reported inattentiveness. While some advocate for the restaurant’s return to excellence, others express reluctance to revisit. Overall, Dobutsu remains a focal point for diverse dining experiences, blending highs and lows in a modern setting.

The lobster ramen was absolutely delicious. It's definitely worth a visit, and I will be returning!
Haven't had a dinner this good in a very long time. One of the best steaks I have ever had as well as a very succulent lobster tail. Wait staff is personable and knowledgeable and the environment is modern and tasteful.Definitely will be returning.
Dobuutsu used to be a restaurant of highest caliber. This was not outcome last night. The oysters on special were NOT special. I could only eat one and my partner could not finish the ones I left on the plate despite that when we ate oysters from Buffalo Chop House the week prior we could not get enough. We then ordered the dumplings which could have been called dumpling in soy sauce soup. They tasty dumplings were literally swimming in half of a bowl of sauce. What were they trying to hide ? Where was the devotion to excellence with plating ? The saving grace was the tuna ahi bowl. Maybe a few too many deep fried taro chips on top , but once removed the fish and rice were delicious! The service 2 stars at best. Our server was inattentive and despite the thin crowd, did not return to us at any point in a timely fashion, despite that I saw him with a gaggle of staff by the bar most of the evening. If that was not bad enough, they were BLARING 80s music which was opposite of the vibe you would want at a fine dining establishment. Songs like wind beneath my wings , the living years heavy songs to Paula Abdul and Taylor Dane. It was so uncomfortable that we had to just laugh at the disconnect that the staff had with ambiance. I will Not be returning to what had been one of the star restaurants in our city. Shame
This place is great! The ambience is amazing and so was the service! I sat at the bar and ordered the Daily Bao, which was a crab rangoon bao and it was such a great combination of flavors. Also ordered the pork, shrimp, and chive dumplings which were great as well and a healthy portion! Got a side of pork belly as well (which isn't on the menu, but was $6 and totally worth it), and it was so tender and flavorful! Ordered The Perfect Pair cocktail and it was a great balance of alcohol, sweet, and tart. No doubt this will be one of my new spots
Our server, Hannah, was fantastic. She described each special with such enthusiasm that I found myself interested in trying items I hadn't considered, like the tartine. I really hope she stays on for the new concept! We started with a few appetizers. The tartine was enjoyable but I could hardly taste the crawfish; it felt like it could have been topped with anything. The tots, on the other hand, were incredibly smooth and delicious, setting a high bar for all other tater tots. The buns were aptly described as a bun version of crab Rangoon, and while I was surprised they used imitation crab, they were still very tasty. As for the dumplings, I've tried many and can be hard to impress. While I found the sauce a bit overpowering for the delicate stuffing flavors, they were still tasty. For my entree, I ordered the pork belly rice bowl, which was unexpectedly sweet and absolutely delicious. The pork belly was perfectly cooked and melted in my mouth. By chance, we were served the ramen, and I was thrilled by this mix-up because the broth was packed with flavor, and I really enjoyed the greens. Not to forget, the beef noodle soup, which was rich and wonderful! The beef was incredibly tender, and the broth was simple yet delightful. I’m looking forward to experiencing the new concept, as it’s clear the chef has a great talent for flavor. If you have a chance to visit before they close, I highly recommend it!
