Stopped by for weekend dinner after the Lightscape show at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden, luckily got in a few minutes before a big crowd showed up. Staff are very busy but friendly and efficient. Warm lively vibe, intimate but not pretentious, good for dates or dinners with family or friends either way. We ordered the pesto pasta, burger and truffle chicken pot pie. We were all pretty happy. What Cristina D doesn't like about Sunshine Co.:
The food and ambiance are five star quality without a doubt! The best biscuits and gravy I have had north of the mason Dixon line to date actually! And the drinks were absolutely phenomenal and very well balanced. It's a very cute brunch date spot ... as long as you aren't in any rush. The service here, despite being completely empty when we arrived, was extremely lackluster and at best subpar. Not the most accommoda... View all feedback.
5* Brooklyn brunch is a high watermark. Here, to succeed you have to get the mix of tradition, expectation and originality just right. Getting my 5* here is like Usain bolt winning the 100m dash, while throwing shot-put in one hand, and the discus in the other. They almost get things right here. The peak is the Brussels sprout has. Cooked just right, with flavour to burn. Subbing out the bacon for avocado is a good call. The sprouts have flavour enough to bring the avo to its best. I could whine about the cup-of-joe. But I guess I'll take NYC's predictably insipid coffee flavoured water over a new york interpretation of flat white (no, not a euphemism for an Anglo cadaver). My friend's grits and shrimp didn't quite make it. The burger was good without being great. All in all, it's a great spot for good food.
Okay, let me start by saying I adore Sunshine Co. I visited there a few years ago with a friend and had the eggs Benedict and it was amazing! So I decided to bring my friends to try it out. Unfortunately this go round we had a few mishaps, but the food was still good in my opinion. My friend had steak eggs and asked for it medium well. She wanted it more pink than it was. I had hair in both of my plates and the servers apologetically brought me new food. The server we had was great although he didn’t know much English. We all had a Frozen Pomegranate Margaritas. The drink was good and the rim was a bit spicy. It was a nice day, so we sat outside and enjoyed the breeze. Overall, I would recommend this place. It’s a chill environment to have a nice meal.

The pesto pasta was very creamy which wasn’t expected but still ok, just a bit heavy. Pebble beach cocktail was pretty good and strong, might be better with a rum instead but that’s just me. Jealous of their brunch menu, I’ve always seen this place very busy in the summers for their outdoor dining. Will definitely try brunch next time. Solid neighborhood spot to keep on your list!
Five stars for great staff, pleasant ambiance, and cleanliness. My assessment of a restaurant is based mostly on food, so I went with a four-star review for this spot (i have to be blown away to give an overall five-star! . And since I only had one dish- the BLT with an egg- I don’t have much to go on. It was decent: good quality bacon cooked just right, good garlic aioli, crisp lettuce. The bread was pretty good, at least it wasn’t chewy, and the tomato wasn’t very flavorful, but also not bad. I did enjoy the side salad, a nice surprise. Typically places don’t seem to care about a side salad, but Sunshine’s dressing is very good- nice attention to detail there. Presentation was a little sloppy but I think that’s because it was Easter Sunday and they were super busy. I will try this spot again for sure. Overall, good energy around this place and lovely people working there which to me indicates good leadership !
Visited this place for a second time and it was still great! Food was delicious, and we had a great time.
