Red Hook Tavern - Brooklyn
Red Hook Tavern
Description
Nestled in Red Hook, this tavern is renowned for its exceptional burgers, particularly the drool-worthy dry-aged variety. Diners rave about the juicy, flavorful patties topped with warm melted cheese and crispy onions, all nestled in a perfectly toasted bun. While some patrons noted challenging wait times and an occasionally unprofessional atmosphere, the allure of the burger often overshadows these issues. With its cozy vibe and dedicated culinary execution, enthusiasts agree that the tavern burger is among the best in the city. For true burger lovers, the trek is undoubtedly worth the wait.

The burger is truly the highlight of this place. It's one of my all-time favorites and certainly ranks among the best in the city, offering a wonderfully juicy and flavorful experience without any pretentiousness. Treat yourself and add bacon; it really enhances the burger. The quality of preparation and execution is impeccable, and the same goes for the rest of the menu. The cozy, unpretentious pub atmosphere really elevates the whole experience for me.
This tavern in Red Hook is not the easiest to reach. You could use the bus or ferry, and I showed up on a Saturday afternoon for lunch a bit later than I planned. I ordered their signature burger and was told it'd be a while. It took roughly fifty minutes until I got my lunch.I ate the fries and meat with enthusiasm. The meat was full of flavor and the grilled onions below gave it a great deal of kick. Overall the food was great. But you need to plan ahead to get here before you actually are hungry.
I wish I could give it 0 stars. Aside from the food being mediocre. When we arrived at 7pm we didn’t have a reservation (it was a Tuesday). We expected to wait when we got there and the hostess told us it would be forty minutes to an hour. We put our name down and left. Happy to wait, we checked back in after not hearing anything for an hour and ten minutes. When we arrived the hostess said it would be just a few more minutes. If the hostess had been honest and told us we would have to wait another hour for a table, we would have walked away then, but instead proceeded to tell us just a few more minutes for the next hour at which that point everything else in the neighborhood was closed and we were forced to continue waiting. When we finally sat down no one was apologetic, but instead talked about us behind our backs. Arguably the most bizarre occurrence was as we walked away we received the most sarcastic “thanks for coming by” when we were 50 ft away from the restaurant. My sister and I both have worked in the restaurant industry and agree that the whole experience was unprofessional. Avoid this place, there are better restaurants in Brooklyn that are better staffed and have better food.
Indeed a hidden gem in the lovely Red Hook area. Must make reservations because otherwise your not guaranteed a seat that day... we had an hour wait then another 30 minutes for them to make and prepare the roasted chicken but my God was it worth the wait. Service Is fast and served hot very fresh just look at the photos the dry aged 31 days crazy burger speaks for itself its an absolute show stopper. Also please do not forget to order a fresh dark mcsorelys ale yummmm Meal type: Dinner Price per person: $50–100 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5
Rating: 9/10 Date Last Visited: 9/6/2025 We ordered the Dry Aged Red Hook Tavern Burger $32), Fish and Chips $28), French Onion Soup $18), and a side of bacon $8). The burger was absolutely amazing, and it was definitely one of the best burgers I’ve had. The meat is super juicy and cooked perfectly while the bun is the perfect vehicle for the meat. For how simple the burger is bun, patty, cheese, pickles they do an amazing job elevating the taste to the next level. For over $30, it’s a bit pricey but well worth trying at least once. The fish and chips were good too, but pretty expensive for the portion sizes. I would not get the french onion soup again it was decent but again, too expensive. And skip the bacon too, 100% not worth $8. I would come back again, but only get the burger. The service was great, and the restaurant itself had a nice cozy vibe to it. Overall, I would recommend this place to anyone who loves burgers, it’s worth coming out and trying this place at least once in your life.
