What User doesn't like about Monarch:
The food at this restaurant is good, but the owners have a problematic attitude. There is evident racism and discrimination towards African American employees behind the scenes at Aiya. The atmosphere created by the Japanese/Asian employees is unwelcoming for people of color, and there is clear favoritism at play. It is disheartening to see such behavior in a business setting. Monarch just a new vegan menu. They realized that the future begins and they adapt. The food is delicious. Everything is reasonable so you can try several things. The Brussels sprouts are incredible. They make an Asian turn on guacamole with Yuzu juice instead of lime and serve it with canton chips. The maitake bungalows are lovely. The sesame noodles have a touch of heat to only help lighten up the dish. I can't wait to go back and order more of the vegan offers. Everything's vegetables. No tofu, seitan, tempo or vegan meat. Food is cooked to order so everything is fresh. They work on a vegan dessert.
Despite the good food, the negative environment created by biased opinions makes it difficult to enjoy a meal here. Let's hope the business can address these issues and improve for the better.
This is one of my favorite places in New York. I really enjoy the atmosphere, the service, and the food as a whole. They have a great vegan menu with lots of tasty choices. Even though I'm not vegan, I still love ordering from the vegan menu and sharing some delicious dishes with my companion.
Monarch has recently introduced a new vegan menu. They have recognized the shift towards plant-based eating and have adapted accordingly. The food is delicious and affordably priced, allowing diners to sample a variety of dishes. The Brussels sprouts are particularly noteworthy. Their guacamole has an Asian twist, featuring yuzu juice instead of lime and served with wonton chips. The maitake buns are also a hit, and the sesame noodles have just the right amount of heat. I look forward to returning and trying more of the vegan options. The menu consists entirely of vegetables and does not include tofu, seitan, tempeh, or vegan meats. All dishes are cooked to order for freshness. They are currently developing a vegan dessert option as well.
This restaurant is amazing, it's the best in NYC! We couldn't stop eating everything as soon as it arrived at our table. I can't wait to come back here. The food is delicious: must-try dishes are the Chicken Dumplings, calamari with an amazing sauce even if you don't like squid, pork fried rice, garlic chicken, and the Matcha Icecream sandwich for dessert. It's a family style restaurant so you share all the entrees. If you have a big appetite like us, I recommend ordering two of everything. The ambiance is cute and reminds me of Miami, South Beach with a Moroccan aesthetic. The staff is relaxed and the music adds to the chill vibe of the place.
