Doc's - Brooklyn
Doc's
Description
Doc's Cake Shop is a beloved Bed-Stuy bakery famed for rich treats—banana pudding, red velvet, strawberry cakes and cupcakes—sought for slices and custom event orders. While flavors keep regulars coming, recent reports note thinning reliability: stock shortages at busy events, order mix-ups, and curt counter service have dented trust. Customers still praise signature sweets, but those ordering bespoke cakes should expect variable service and allow extra care. Doc's remains a neighborhood staple for classic desserts despite service inconsistencies.

Super friendly staff owner. Needed a cake last minute and I was able to pick one out and get it decorated within minutes. Haven’t tried it yet but it got so busy right at open that it must be delicious ?!
The most delicious red velvet cake I've ever had. My only complaint is that I wish the slices were bigger. .
My Uncle just recently purchased my sons Graduation cake(Red Velvet) from this establishment. This cake was the hit of the party! Will definitely be making this place the new purchase place for all family celebrations to come! Thank you!
I ordered a custom fondant cake for a graduation party Doc's did an amazing job! Everyone was really impressed ?
I remember Docs when we moved to bedstuy years ago looking for a place to buy cakes for our baby shower. We walked in to this simple bakery not expecting much, got a few slices we were hooked. That was the beginning of our family’s relationship with Docs. In the past I would have rated Docs 5 stars. Not anymore. My family began using them 5 years ago for a few events each year. Until this May we have never had any issues. In May I ordered a cake for my fiancé and when I arrived to pick the cake up. The design that I sent over in the email was half way done. The manager worked with me to fix the issue and I agreed to pick up the redesigned cake the next day. I was pleased with the way it was handled. It was not the most convenient solution but Docs acknowledged the issue and worked with me.Fast forward to this past Saturday. My fiancé ordered a cake for my daughter. When I arrived to pick the cake up the receptionist tried to give me a 6 inch cake that said “Happy Birthday Mama”. Then she brings out the cake that looks like what I pictured my fiancé would order for my 13 year old daughter. I glanced at the size and style while she quickly boxed it up. I never had a reason to worry that they would give me the wrong cake. So being so quick to accept that it was the right cake this time was my mistake. When I get home we realize that the cake is someone else’s (Glory). After calling over and over we finally get to someone who says that they accidentally made 3 cakes with my daughters name on it… Like what?? My daughters name is nowhere close to Glory so it still made no sense. Ten minutes later they call back letting us know that they will send the real cake in a taxi at their expense and pick up Glory’s cake because Glory will need her cake. We are then baffled. I ask the company’s rep if they are seriously going to pick a cake up that has been in my house open for hours at this point and give it to Glory as if this never happened. I told them how that is unsanitary and is making me question the integrity of Docs. For all I know our cake could’ve been elsewhere as well. Our cake was dropped off and about 40 mins later. A lady with blue contacts came to pick up Glory’s cake. She did not say or do anything to change the negative thoughts that we now have about Docs. She scolded me saying next time make sure I read the invoice before accepting the cake. No apology, nothing. I let her know that I would still like a call from the manager. It is now eod Wednesday. I have not heard from a representative of Docs.I would love to continue to support Docs. They are black owned and have delicious cakes. But I fear that they can’t meet the high demands of their business now. They run out of cakes quickly, they are making simple mistakes on custom orders, and quality service is not being given anymore. Two stars because their cakes are good.
