Description

A stylish neighborhood spot in Greenpoint that serves inventive, French-leaning comfort food and standout cocktails — think escargot, coq au vin, onion soup, mushroom risotto and a buzzy oyster happy hour. The decor and outdoor patio are charming and relaxed, and many praise the flavors and creative drinks. However, service quality and pacing can be inconsistent, seating choices sometimes awkward, and the restaurant enforces a strict cancellation fee that has frustrated guests. Great for casual dinners, drinks and happy hour if you accept variable service.

Charged 100$ for cancelling an outdoor reservation during a torrential downpour, even after explaining there was a newborn in our party.Owner was unwilling to make a reasonable exception saying the policy is firm This is the actual wording: not doing so may trigger a $25 per person cancellation fee . Key word being may .Just be aware if you make a reservation, their actual policy is: you will be charged $25 per person, regardless of reason for cancellation or actual shortage of tables They offered the $100 as a credit if we ever dined there but why would I want to eat somewhere with such an inhospitable owner?Check out her replies to some of the other reviews and I think you 'll get a sense of what I 'm talking about...Or now you can just see the reply to this one, bless your heart! No one at any point was remotely aggressive or threatening...Torrential downpour may have been a slight exaggeration but all are welcome to check the weather for nyc on 4/29/23 and judge for yourselves if it seems good for outdoor brunch with a baby, covered or otherwise... wunderground.com/history…)We cancelled as soon as everyone woke up and assessed the weather, probably around 10, 3 hours before the reservation. I have never had a restaurant actually charge a cancellation fee if a reasonable excuse and as much notice as possible is provided. Even ones that don 't have most reservations left open the night before...

I was looking for a place to post up for a bit after landing while waiting for someone to meet up. I ducked into this bar and restaurant that has a delightful outdoor seating area thinking I might have one drink to kill some time. Then I saw the menu, which is one of the most creative, well executed menus I've come across in a while. The Auntie Grizelda is a party of flavors and the next two were just as mouth watering. The staff was supremely accommodating and did an excellent job of describing the cocktails flavor pallet .The outside seating area was well done, and even equipped with fans, and they have no problem with me sitting at my iPad to catch up on the NBA playoff game. And the mushroom risotto was perfection.I will definitely be back. This place is a jewel.

Update:Following my initial review, I experienced an unwarranted series of discourteous emails from the establishment's owner. In light of this unexpected backlash to my constructive feedback, I feel compelled to amend my rating to a mere one star as a cautionary signal for others who might share similar critiques. With a culinary history that includes dining at numerous Michelin-starred establishments, including esteemed locations such as Eleven Madison Park, Le Bernardin, and Daniel, I am well-versed in the high standards set by the Michelin Guide. While these mentioned venues represent the apex of fine dining, I firmly believe that any establishment vying for recognition within the Michelin system should, at the very least, adhere to the fundamental expectations of a one-star Michelin restaurant. My recent interactions, coupled with my initial experiences at this venue, have led me to conclude that it currently falls short of even a single Michelin star's requirements. I urge potential diners to approach with caution when considering this establishment.Original review:I appreciated the flexibility in adjusting my reservation time, but there were several concerns. Despite a seemingly spacious and uncrowded restaurant, we were seated sandwiched between two couples. Perhaps other seats were reserved, yet it seemed we could've been placed somewhere more suitable.A bigger issue was with our first appetizer—the oysters. Every oyster contained fragments of shell, which considerably hampered our initial dining experience. We found ourselves either spitting out shell pieces or unintentionally crunching on them. Moreover, I noticed a lack of attentiveness in service standards expected from a Michelin-rated establishment. We weren't offered fresh cutlery or plates between courses, and our drinks, particularly the sparkling water, weren't refreshed. Even though we mentioned being in a bit of a hurry, the service felt sluggish and inattentive.I left a three-star review based on my understanding that this was a Michelin-rated restaurant. Otherwise, the food was commendable and would merit four stars on a regular scale. Let me know if you require further elaboration.

First, the server didn’t say hi, he just asked us to order right away because the kitchen was closing, then my friend tried to order something from the bar (full bar) and the server said no to it, he then rushed me to order a drink when i told him to wait, the food was ok, from 5 plates 3 were good, 2 were just bad. I’m not coming back here. Second, france. Service: Dine in Meal type: Dinner Price per person: $50–100 Food: 3 Service: 1 Atmosphere: 4 Recommended dishes: Coq Au Vin
