Was Massimo Setzu at Chavela's a mag?
I really enjoyed this place—it feels like a local favorite and definitely lives up to that reputation. The guacamole was perfectly seasoned, which isn’t always the case elsewhere. The mole had a slightly burnt flavor, but it worked well with the tortillas and the meat came off the bone easily. The shrimp dish was also excellent. Just one sangria-margarita mix got me pretty buzzed. I’ll definitely be coming back regul... View all feedback.
What Hollis Koepp dislikes about Chavela's:
This place is really cool and the staff is friendly but I had to give 2 stars because of what I found in my plate: the egg shell.I mean…really?!I loved the strong margarita and the plate was great overall…but something like that I’ve never seen in a restaurant. View all feedback.
Good food and best brunches. I would definitely visit this place again. Located in Brooklyn surrounding many fun places to go!! Great location and service !
This was my first time dining here and I loved it! Our neighbors recommended it and I had heard that it was the best Mexican food in the area even from strangers. We went on a Wednesday at happy hour, which naturally started with a pitcher of margaritas. The hostess was really friendly and asked what our preferences were for salt or Tajín on the rims. Honestly, I should have taken a picture of the drinks because they were well worth the money! I think there was a total of six glasses between the three of us.For food, I got the three vegetarian tacos nopales, hongos, and aguacate con queso. All super good! I would say three to four is the perfect number of tacos. We had guacamole and chips to start with so I left the restaurant thoroughly full. Their desserts sounded great so I'll have to come back soon!
D e l i c i o u s! we all know that it is very hard to find good Mexican food outside mexicos (and especially in nyc), but Chavela’s were able to give us a real Mexican experience. everything was on the spot! chips and salsa, enchiladas and churros at the end were absolutely fantastic. in any case recommend!
Best part of the restaurant is the atmosphere, the negroni was a 10 but the labios rojos is a regular mezcalita, a basic drink just a beautiful presentation. The food was real basic mexican food, because of the fame I was expecting a little more. I give the food a 5. We had chilaquiles, tostadas, huarache, esquites and Plato don. Dont have any of them maybe other plates are better. We also had bread pudding it was a 4. Music was good and our server great! Food: 2 Service: 4 Atmosphere: 5
Excellent food, exciting and innovative twists on classic dishes. Food: 4 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5
