The traditional margaritas were just average and didn't stand out in any way; they were also on the smaller side. The crispy Brussels sprouts were quite disappointing; they were drenched in vinegar and olive oil, and then burnt to a crisp, which was inedible. There’s a fine line between crispy and burnt, and it seems the chef mistook one for the other. The chips and salsa were merely okay—while the salsa had a nice spicy kick, the chips were stale. Overall, I won’t be returning. With so many fantastic options for drinks and appetizers in Brooklyn, I would suggest looking elsewhere for a better experience.
I have been in Park Slope for 30 Years and frequented Calexico since it opened. I was just there for lunch sitting outside and there was a patron who was screaming at the top of his lungs in his storytelling to his lunch mates. He was screaming Motherfucking and **** so many times I cant count. I asked him to please lower his rant so that I could have my lunch in peace, and it became such a challenge that I requested my lunch be packed up to leave. What concerns me is that it was not my place to address this. It was management. They did nothing. Reprehensible.
Lovely place. Had a late lunch there. Loved the pork taco and the quesadillas. Food is well seasoned but not spicy hot. If you want heat, there are 6 different hot sauces to choose from. Prices are reasonable. Next time I will swing by for brunch. Staff is really good and nice. They know what they are doing.
