Find us on instagram: loveatfirstbite_aus Came here for a dinner with a large group of work colleagues while up in Brisbane for work. The food was phenomenal - the salmon was so delicate and melted in my mouth. Dessert was a deconstructed chocolate brownie with beetroot. While it sound unconventional, it was actually quite nice and added a nice twist to an otherwise classic brownie! instagram.com
My partner and i visited this restaurant for our anniversary. It is expensive but i strongly believe it's worth it. The food is very tasty and unique. Each course is small but very healthy and you won't go back home hungry. A big tick for the ambient. At the end while we were waiting for the bill we were surprised and treated to special drink and dessert which was so lovely. We will definitely go back to Urbane again!
We paid $230 for "valentines day set dinner and feel ABSOLUTELY ripped off. Tiny Meals are low quality, pretending to be something fancy. One meal in particular was simply gross : spinach with rice and wait for it: "pea foam "!!! Pea foam that looks as gross as it tastes... soapy foamy consistency. Dessert didn't impress either, half an apple baked, seems like they were on some serious budget trying to make biggest margins. We felt utterly disappointed and unsatisfied. Staff was courteous and lovely. Music was horrendous - we just had to laugh it off. Decor is just OK. Will never go back there again.
The missus and I had the opportunity to try Urbane’s 5-course Degustation menu. It took us over 2-hours to get through everything and left surprisingly feeling quite feel despite the portions (likely because of service times and how dense everything on the menu was). We were provided a couple of snacks to start off with- the highlight being the mushroom cappuccino’s theatrics. We then proceeded to the degustation, with house bread being served on the side (the Tassie butter was divine) and a palate cleanser, chilled tomato consommé, which tasted clean and fresh. Unfortunately nothing else really stood out for us except for the wagyu (which was a premium cut), everything else was too heavy on the cream and too salty. We found ourselves consuming a lot of water after each course. There was a lot of emphasis on Urbane being “zero-waste”, this being mentioned by the host and the servers after each and every course was brought out. Thought it was interesting that it had to be repeated so often. Most advanced cuisines of the world- Italian, French, Asian, Chinese, etc. have already been adopting this practice and using every bit/part of the meats even in the early eras when women would spend days creating meals in the kitchen. Is using “zero-waste” supposed to make the meal feel more premium and exclusive? While it was an interesting experience, I wouldn’t say it is something that I would do again. To each their own, but for those who enjoy overpriced fine dining this might be worth your time (and money).
